I decided to Liven it up some here and ask everyone WHat Player have you seen playing for Detroit do the most amazing play then give another if you can recall one they did.
I would have to Say its Billy SIms, 1983 against Houston one play stood out when Billy took the ball offtackle and Hurdled the Linebacker while he was in mid air the Saftey came over to give him a crushing blow instead SIms Kicked the dude right in the head.
In the end SIms got called for Illgeal kick to the Helmet 15 yaRDS BUT STILL WAS AMAZING ABILITY!
1981 Billy Sims took the ball on a sweep left with 8 guys in the box to stop him he had no where to run once he got to the Left sidelines,so he change directions and went back the way he came! All this behind the line of scrimage he ended up sweeping left then Sweeping Right then breaking off 67 yard td run the single most explosive play I have ever seen bye a running back.
One more for the record! Billy SIms was the first true back to leap from the 5 yard line over the defense and into the endzone it was very hard to stop him because he could leap so high and from 5 yards out he was deadly at it! _________________ STAFFORD IS THE QUARTERBACK OF THE FUTURE AND THE FUTURE IS NOW!

The question was what play during a LIon game was the best you ever seen Barry Sanders was electical but I have seen guys run like him L Tomilison is almost a spliting image of Barry.
I also remember Watching Kirk Gibson on one Leg smack a winning homerun when he couldnt even run I call that amazing play not just a everyday run, you missed the point or have not seen many players outside Barry lol.
This is not an Arguemnent over WHOS the Greatiest Player you think its one play that Amazed ya or two from the same guy I would of mentioned Barry if I had seen something I felt he did really amazing I mean he duked people out of there Jock staps but other then that I cant say he did anything else that really blew me away.
If Barry did something NAMe it~! _________________ STAFFORD IS THE QUARTERBACK OF THE FUTURE AND THE FUTURE IS NOW!

I think the most amazing thing Barry Sanders did was when he Scored a Touchdown he just handed the ball to the Ref and acted like it was no big deal he was great but never acted like he was and never disrepected the game or players he played with bye showing them up.
Thats one key thing that Barry SHown me! _________________ STAFFORD IS THE QUARTERBACK OF THE FUTURE AND THE FUTURE IS NOW!

Most exciting game ever with Detroit Involled I have seen!
Simple 1983 playoffs Detroit vs 49ers in the bay, Danielson qb of Detroit threw 5 ints and Montana lead niners were on there way to becoming a Dynasty but the Lions Defense did a noble job keeping them in it holding them under 30 points on all them turnovers.
Billy SIms had 157 yards and 2 tds and then came the Kick that made the Lions Fans Crinage Eddie Murray kicking a 40 yarder to win the game and stop the Niners from winning there first Super Bowl!
We all know the rest time ran out and the kick went wide right OOPS, it was a great game and we lost bye 2 points to Montana and Rice before they ever snifed being champs in 83! _________________ STAFFORD IS THE QUARTERBACK OF THE FUTURE AND THE FUTURE IS NOW!

Knowing the Lions History is important as knowing todays or what happen 5 years ago you should always remember all the great players.
Billy SIms was the Oldiest player ever drafted bye Detroit he started College late in life was Drafted bye Detroit number one over then CHarles White who beat him out for the Heisman which would of been SIms 2nd in a row if not beaten out bye USC favortism.
He was the first back in college history to run for 300 plus games in 3 straight games he rushed for over 1700 yards as a Junior and a whoping 7.6 yards per carry 160.1 yards per game.
Only played in Detroit for 4 years, Had major Knee injury in 84 which today he would of only missed 2 games max Sims was the first Real number 20 at running back for Detroit if he would of been here still in 89 Barry wouldnt even of been drafted bye us we made the playoffs in 3 of the 4 years SIms played in Detroit.

Probably one of a hundred incredible runs by Barry Sanders. But that Roy Williams one handed catch was pretty nifty and hell give them plenty more highlight catches in the next few years. Of course, Im a young buck so I dont remember the old lion legends.

Lion King, you're out of your mind. LT is a great RB, but he is NOT Barry Sanders. Remember, when Barry ran we had the worst OL in the history of the game probably! How many times did he take a handoff and get gangtackled before he could take a step? Yet he took plays like that and broke enough of them wide open to put up the yards he did. I've never seen anyone with the ability to be grabbed by 3 people at once, then make them all run into each other while he takes off down the sideline. The laws of inertia didn't even apply to him, he could go full speed one way, then be full speed the opposite without losing a beat. If you grabbed his shoe, he'd let you have it then juke someone else with one shoe on. If he had been behind a better O line his entire career he would have put up over 2,000 every year. The year he broke that mark the line was much improved and he could actually get through the hole before he had to make his first move. In my opinion, no one has ever come close to Barry for elusiveness, vision and playmaking ability.

Yeah he was SPecial BUT there is that BUT word again if he was so able to make people miss why he always go out of bounds for neg Yardage why didnt he just turn up field and make them 2 or 3 guys miss for another 5 or 10 yards UM Interesting any comment!
He must of not been that evassive after all to go out of bounds more on his own every game then the Lions Offense left the field during a game.
Barry was great but he was too SOft in my mind he should of battled more for extra yardage but then again its a shared opion of many experts Sanders had all kinds of gifts but was his Heart really into football.
WHO really knows he walked away like he didnt care much and thats kind of the way he played every game he scored a td he just handed the ball to the ref no emotion like it didnt really matter to him, now thats a special trait to not have an ego but maybe its deeper then that perhaps he really never wanted to play football just needed too to earn a living.
SAnders WIll go down as one of the Greatiest ever but man he could of been even better I think If only he wanted too be more!
Just an Opion I would love to have him or Billy SIms back again but those days are gone now its K JOnes and Hope he does the trick better learn to block better though! _________________ STAFFORD IS THE QUARTERBACK OF THE FUTURE AND THE FUTURE IS NOW!

Listen Lion King, i understand that you may be older than me and i can appreciate that you love and respect all of the older players, but come on, what did barry do?????? Barry sanders carried an ailing franchise with the likes of Scott Mitchell and Charlie Batch at QB, when barry first came in as a lion Herman Moore and Willie Green the touchdown machine were there to take pressure off of the run game, plus they had a young QB in Andre Ware that was suppose to be great, but the fact is plain and simple Moore got old the QB's fell into the cellars they needed to be in, and Barry stayed Barry. For as many years as i watched the Lions, Barry sold the tickets, no one wanted to see any of those other guys on any of the teams barry was on, no one cared frankly, as long as Barry got 100-200 yards a game and made professional athletes look silly doin it, people were goin to come to the games sunday after sunday. Put plain and simple, Barry Sanders did leave early, but what would you do if sunday after sunday you were the hardest workin guy on the feild and year after year the franchise you played for refused to surround you with players that wanted to do the same. You would quit too. When they had the guys like Speilman and Bennie Blades those guys that wanted to plant you every down on defense so the offense could come out and win it, thats when they had their success, but now its all about the washed up veterns that they bring in for leadership, and BArry wasnt having it, so he did what he wanted, and after all that i would say he dezserved to make his own choice. If you ever compare Ladanian Tomlinson to barry Sanders again i will lose respect for your knowledge of the game. LT is a modern do it all fantasy lovers RB. Barry was just ........well he was Barry, plain and simple. He cant be tackled with only one guy. Lt is fast granted he is real quick and good, but come on man LT AND BARRY !!!!HAHAHA!!! oh yea and BARRY BARRY BARRY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

so if barry was soft what was emmitt smith? Come on soft, waht did you want him to do fight for another inch against 11 guys bc the line cant block anyone, look at guys like bo jackson that did fight for that extra inch, they get injured. Why do you think barry was as healthy as he was, bc he wasnt a power runner, he was "soft" runner as you so harshly put it. He wasnt a FB and he wasnt jamal lewis. Different runners do different things, barry didnt catch many passes out of the backfield like so many others i.e. marcus allen. Lets put it this way barry had prolly the quickest feet, qith exception to Sayers and payton, and most powerful legs, sorry Earl cambell, that this generation will see. He had the great vision like Smith, but no blocking and no one to take the pressure off of him. I mean he is 3rd all-time in rushing and he barely made it past the 2nd round of the playoffs, and half the time never made the playoffs. He played 16 games every year with the other 11 focused primarily on him when he was in the game. He did what he could do , and that to me was good enough to make him the best lion i have ever seen play.

I would have to go with Barry Sanders. This isn't really a knock on Emmitt Smith; however, if Barry Sanders would've had the same offensive line I think one of those years he would have put up 2500. As for Barry just handing the ball to the ref and not caring that would be called professionalism and I don't fault you for not recognizing it because that trait is very rare in professional athletes.
