Most of you understand the risks associated with putting detailed personal information on the internet. However, some of you may need a reminder. Never post your full name, phone number, or address. Also, be very careful who you give your e-mail address to.
Remember, everything you post on these forums can be read by ANYONE. Don't say anything you wouldn't want a total stranger to know.
Posting a picture of yourself is not allowed on these forums. I consider a picture of yourself to be 'personal information' and as previously stated you are not allowed to post detailed personal information on the forums.
I also caution all kids/teens to not post post pictures or personal information anywhere on the internet. There are real dangers involved in posting personal information. It's not allowed here and you shouldn't post it on other websites/forums either.
The internet can lull you into a false since of security, however you never know who could be reading the posts you make. |

a person's mother's maiden name is frequently used as a password for credit card companies.
so if you give that away, and someone has access to your credit card account number, you might be giving them access to purchasing with your credit card. |

I understand the full name thread, but mother's maiden name? |
That thread was started as a "joke" by someone after I made this announcement.
To answer your question, don't give out your mother's maiden name. Many times that is used for password or account reminders for banks, loans, credit cards etc. |

As a side note for some of you younger guys out there - change your passwords and "special questions" on your online banking and stuff like that. Most places use the Maiden name as the default question, change it to a different question. Just a little advice from your Uncle Grr. _________________

I also heard that you should change your password at least once every two months.
Also, Scar, people can make an inference about that. For example, I may be wrong, but by sayingthat your 1st name is Scott C., I could infer that your name is Scott Carr, or beginning with CAR. And, I also know that you are an Atlanta fan, so I can assume that you live in the Georgia area. An easy search on Switchboard and, tada, I got your phone number and address.
We learned this in Keyboarding class. _________________
