Since the News just broke of the Justin Smith signing it appears the next DE the Vikings look at will be Antwan Odom:

Measureables: 6-5 274 26 years old
Stats: 2007: 21 TOT 8 Sk 1 FF 7 PD
Career: 58 TOT 12.5 Sk 3 FF 11 PD

Odom finally had a breakout year last year recording 8 Sacks and he is still a young player who could develop.

What are your guys thoughts?

I think we go after him too and hopefully someone else. With Smith singing with the 49ers and the fitz to Philly for thier 1st and lito talks. I'm kind of in a state of nervousness. We need a monster pass rush and a wide out.

-AS TO FITZ-
Heck I'll trade our 1st and 3rd for Fitz
our 1st and winnie if they want it, Chester and a 1st
I dont care take what you want just give me FITZ!!

Kinda ticks me off the vick name aint flooting around these trade talks about him.

Does anyone know of any other DE that we could sign for cheap?

I do not know much about Odom but we need a DE and it would be great to sign him.

I wonfer if it will take a 49er "Justin Smith" type contract to get him?

How close in skills/potential is he to Justin?

several free agents are out there + they want new contracts or teams + we have $35 million + Wilf has stated his guys are free to wheel and deal + players have been cut from our team, showing FA's we are making space for them = expectations we will make early signings.

list who you think we will sign early.

my predictions (based on nothing but hunch and desire):

Odom, DE
Williams, S
Berrian, WR
Lemon, QB

I would like to go get Antwan Odom. He should come at least a little cheaper than Justin Smith did, and the production would probably be similar in our defense.

Putting any quality defensive end alongside Kevin and Pat Williams should result in better production than we got out of the end spot last season.

• A native of Bayou La Batre, Ala., Odom’s parents’ house suffered roof and other structure damage during Hurricane Katrina last year. Fortunately his family evacuated their house before the hurricane damaged the area and nobody was hurt. Odom says that his family has started the rebuilding project like many others on the Gulf Coast.

• Odom is very involved in two southern pastimes – pro wrestling and NASCAR. His favorite wrestler is WWE’s John Cena. As for his racing ambitions, Odom hopes to take part in a NASCAR ride-along program to mimic his favorite driver, Dale Earnhardt Jr.

• Odom’s youth was closely associated with the seafood industry of Bayou La Batre, Ala. In high school, he worked part-time unloading shrimp boats and crab trucks, and his mother and grandmother are long-time employees of shrimp and crab packaging plants.

• Odom enjoys fishing for bass, catfish and crappie and hunting deer and wild turkey in Walker County, Ala.

• Married to Brooke, couple splits time between Nashville and Jasper, Ala., with sons Antwan Jr. (5), Baylor (3) and Jeriamiah (1 1/2).

Does anybody have the stats for Odom when Haynesworth was and wasn't in? Or could somebody find it?

It would be interesting to see if all his sacks only came when Haynesworth was in and drawing double teams, or if he was still able to produce when Haynesworth was out...

I'd like to see that before our beloved purple sign him.

it really would make no difference because Pat and Kevin would see the double teams here making it virtually the same thing as in TEN.

i think a helpful way to get Odom on board here, and i'm serious, is to have Pat Williams buddy up with him. they both share roots in Louisiana, like outdoor sports, cars, have families, and well... eating.

oh, and they'd be playing next to each other.

Odom has arranged meetings with Cardinals and Bengals. I see him very far from Vikings. Mc cray could be good option
