According to an NFL source, barring an unlikely contract restructure or trade, the Packers will be parting ways with LB Desmond Bishop, who missed all of last season with a ruptured hamstring tendon suffered in the Aug. 9 preseason opener at San Diego.

If Bishop can show decent health, i wouldnt mind giving him a look. MN never resolved the MLB spot and Bishop would seem like a decent fit, with Henderson at WLB.

Bishop was drafted by the Packers in the 6th round in 2007. He became a starter in 2010 and quickly established as one of the better linebackers in the league, with 219 tackles, eight sacks, one interception and two forced fumbles between 2010-11.

Unfortunately, Bishop's 2012 season was a complete wash, as he tore his hamstring in preseason and missed the entire season. He's been limited in minicamps but is expected to be ready in time for training camp.

Bishop signed a four-year, $19.05 million extension after his breakout 2010 season, but the notoriously frugal Packers are already trying to get out from under that. They tried to shop him during the draft and now seem intent to let him go if he won't agree to a restructure. He is currently set to make $3.464 million in 2013.

Just touched base with Desmond Bishop (@Desbishop55). Linebacker says he is "completely" healthy.

I have a vow to never doubt Ted. But man does this hurt. He was one of my favorite Packers over the past few years. He may be average in coverage but he brings that tough physical presence to our defense that we are trying to cultivate.

He plays every down like you just insulted his mother personally. He WANTS you to run at him. He is an ILB that BEGS you to come near him.

I really hope this was injury related and not $$ related.

Wish you the best Des. Whatever team lands you I will always be a fan of yours (as long as you don't go purple).

I know several teams in the NFC North that could still use depth at LB.

Sure, offseason workouts are largely meaningless. But they meant enough in Green Bay to prompt the team to put a third-year veteran who tore an ACL as a rookie and underperformed in 2012 at the top of the tailback depth chart.

Per Tyler Dunne of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, running back Alex Green currently owns the starting job, ahead of second-rounder Eddie Lacy, fourth-rounder Jonathan Franklin, DuJuan Harris, and James Starks.

This was among the reason's why I picked Hawk over Bishop in our NFC North Roster poll. The Packers were actively shopping him around the draft, and now this. He may have been the splashier player, but he just isn't reliable when it comes to staying on the field.

I would say it's because I'm well rested, but I went in to work at 4 am this morning. You need to step your game up! Very Happy

If he can play well in a 4-3 defense, I'm all for it.

The general consensus in the GB Forum is that he is generally poor in coverage. But what's new. From EJ Henderson, to Brinkley to Erin Henderson, when was the last time MN had at the least, a solid coverage MLB.

Still holding out hope that Hodges can win a spot and take over at nickel MLB. Adding Bishop at least gives the team a veteran MLB, moving Henderson back to WLB where he is a better fit for this defense. Id like to eventually see Hodges take over for Erin. MN really needs to find a LB who can cover, its been a cancer to this defense over the years. Maybe Hodges can be that guy. Perhaps a 2014 rookie.
