The Packers drafted running backs in bulk a year ago, hoping something would work. Now, they’re wondering if one of them will work again. According to Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com, the Packers are concerned that running back Johnathan Franklin might have a career-threatening neck injury.

Last year’s fourth-rounder from UCLA hasn’t practiced this offseason, and according to the report, the Packers are “putting Franklin through more tests to determine whether it’s safe for him to continue playing.”

Kind of similar to Terrance Murphy in a way. Murphy played for like a year and had a neck injury that forced early retirement.

Packers tailback Johnathan Franklin announced Thursday he will not play in 2014 because of a neck injury, and he also indicated his career looks over beyond this season, too.

Franklin: “Unfortunately this week I have been ruled out of returning for the 2014/15 season and returning to play in the NFL.”

Some day, Brett Favre will return to Lambeau Field to have his No. 4 jersey retired in a ceremony before Packers fans. But while it won’t happen this year, there’s a good chance it will happen next year: Packers President and CEO Mark Murphy said he’d like to retire Favre’s number before Favre is enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, which will happen in the summer of 2016.

Although Favre was once the most beloved athlete in Green Bay, much changed when he retired, un-retired and ultimately returned in the rival Vikings uniform. Murphy acknowledged that some fans have hard feelings toward Favre, and that could be a problem for any retirement ceremony.

Murphy: “He wouldn’t want to come back to be booed."

Eddie Lacy had 22 or more touches in 11 of the team’s final 14 games, including the playoff loss to the 49ers, last year and that usage doesn’t look like it will be going down in 2014. While James Starks is back and DuJuan Harris is healthy after missing last season, Packers offensive coordinator Tom Clements says that the team’s plan is for Lacy to play a bigger role on the offense in his second season.

Clements: “We haven’t sat down and figured out ‘X’ number of carries for Eddie. We want to get him touches, trying to get him more involved in all aspects of the game, but Eddie was a workhorse for us last year. And then when James got in there last year, he ran very hard. That was a great one-two punch. Now you factor in DuJuan and the other guys, it’s going to be interesting to see how that plays out.”

According to Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com, a source familiar with the negotiations said Jordy Nelson wants a deal “worth at least $10 million per season.”

Nelson’s currently working on the final year of the three-year, $12.6 million deal he signed in 2011, and his $4.2 million per season average is 34th among all receivers.

More power to him, but he doesn't deserve that kind of money...but neither did Dwayne Bowe and he got it.

several GB fans are posting that Nelson deserves that kind of cash for his production, but doubt the Packers will pay it to him. they see him being moved on and Cobb moved up.

If he's asking for that kind of money, then I'd agree with them letting him move on.

Former Vikings and Packers quarterback Brett Favre might attend a game at Lambeau Field this season, but it won't be to retire his number.

It appears Favre and the Packers are easing into his return, given some of the hard feelings many fans still have about Favre's exit from Green Bay. Packers President Mark Murphy wants the number retirement to happen, but he said Favre might just visit first.

@RapSheet: Packers and Jordy Nelson have struck a deal. It’s a 4-year extension worth $39M, source says. Huge. $14.2M guaranteed.
