After not adding a running back via the NFL draft, the Detroit Lions are reportedly mulling over adding veteran LeGarrette Blount to the roster.

Citing league sources, Yahoo! Sports is reporting the Lions and Giants are both showing interest in Blount. The 6-foot, 250-pounder is coming off his most productive season, rushing for a career-high 1,161 yards while scoring a league-best 18 touchdowns.

There’s also the Lions connection — prior to joining the organization as general manager, Bob Quinn served as the director of pro scouting for the Patriots when the team acquired Blount in a 2013 trade.

Calvin Johnson was a quiet guy during his playing career, but he has plenty to say in retirement. Johnson, the former Lions receiver who said yesterday that he didn’t like how the team treated him when he retired, also had some interesting things to say about concussions.

Johnson: “Of course [I had concussions]. They’re going to dispute that, but anytime you black out, anytime you hit the ground and everything is stars and stuff, any time your brain hits your skull, that’s a concussion, No matter how severe it is, it’s a concussion. Now granted, some people get nausea. That’s a severe concussion when you get hit like that and you get nausea and stuff like that. But if you play football long enough you’re going to have concussions. Guys get concussions, they don’t tell the coaches. It happens. I don’t tell the coach sometimes cause I know I got a job to do. The team needs me out there on the field. And sometimes you allow that to jeopardize yourself, but that’s just the nature of the world.”

Well yeah, anyone who thinks most players don't get multiple concussions throughout their career is extremely naive.

The Lions are preparing for life without their starting left tackle for some — but not all — of the regular season. Taylor Decker is expected to miss four to six months with a torn labrum in his shoulder, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

Decker’s surgery was on Monday, which means he would be expected to return somewhere between October 5 and December 5. In other words, he’d miss somewhere between four and 12 games.

Which means he would likely miss the first matchup against the Vikes (10/1) and possibly the second (11/23) depending on how the recovery goes.

This is a trade I wouldn't have minded the Vikings pursuing. Low risk high reward trade for the Lions.

Former Baltimore Ravens linebacker Zach Orr is attempting an NFL comeback and is visiting with the Lions months after he retired due to a spine and neck disorder.
