According to the Chicago Tribune, the Bears will retire Mike Ditkaís number during a Dec. 9 Monday Night Football appearance against the Cowboys at Soldier Field.

Ditka coached the team to its only Super Bowl title 27 years ago, but was a tremendous player for them prior to that, playing for their 1963 NFL title team. The 73-year-old ESPN analyst will be the 14th Bearts player to have his number retired, the first since - Butkus and Gale Sayers. Thatís the most retired numbers of any NFL team.

What took so long?

Will Urlacher be next? And is Ditka's number being retired a correction of an oversight by Da Bearrrsss organization? Or, did Ditka say/ do something wrong a few years ago when he coached the NO Saints?

no, i believe the Bears have decided they will no longer retire any jersey numbers, and Ditka's will be the last.

Former Oakland Raiders No. 1 overall pick JaMarcus Russell gets his first shot at returning to the NFL on Friday when he visits the Chicago Bears for a workout that will include three other quarterbacks, according to an NFL source with knowledge of the situation.

Quarterback JaMarcus Russell had his workout with the Bears on Friday, but he isnít going to be signing with the team. Thatís the word from Chris Mortensen of ESPN, who reports that the Bears will not be signing any of the three quarterbacks they had in on Friday. Jordan Palmer and Trent Edwards were the other two quarterbacks who worked out in Chicago.

Kristin Cavallari apparently just couldn't wait until this weekend to wed Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler. "The Hills" star shocked her fans Friday afternoon when she posted a photo of wedding bands along with the caption, "I'm officially Kristin Elizabeth Cutler!" Cavallari and Cutler, who have been engaged since 2011 and are parents to 10-month-old Camden, were set to marry Saturday in Nashville.

ruh roh. getting married coincided with Ponder elevating his game.

Very Happy

The Bears traded offensive lineman Gabe Carimi to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, sources told the Sun-Times on Sunday. In return, the Bears receive a sixth-round pick in 2014.

Tampa is a place where I could see Carimi blossoming. His college coach is in Tampa, and playing alongside the likes of Penn, Nicks and Joseph will only aide his development.

Chicago just never seemed like a good situation for him. There offenses have been a mess over the years from Martz to Tice.

So, unless the sky falls then, Howie's son will be the starting RG for the Bears.

Wasn't Carimi a 1st round pick?

I never heard much of him back when he was drafted. Did he even start for the Bears when he was there?

Bears fans react:

Iím surprised we got even a 6th for him as it was pretty obvious he wasnít going to make the teamÖyou have to wonder what would have happened had he not hurt his knee so early in his careerÖI hope he goes on to have a decent career with the Bucs and finds a home with his old college Oline coach.

Selkiesxx wrote:
I really am shocked we got anything for him. At this point, it was just time to go. We don't need to waste a spot on the roster because some guy was a first round pick (of Jerry Angelo, mind you) and if Gabe is to have a successful career -- it wasn't going to be in Chicago.

Wasn't a fit on this team, I'm good with it because (I'm assuming) Trestman and Kromer signed off on this.

It's a shame to see this happen to a guy I think we were all hoping would be a key fixture on our line but at the same time kudos to our GM or pulling the trigger on this move and getting something of at least some value for a guy who probably wasn't going to make the team anyway.

There is now not a single first round pick left on the Bears from the Angelo era.

the Game of Thrones bloodletting in Chicago continues:

With Tony Fiammetta now in the fold, the Bears will cut tight end Evan Rodriguez, according to Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune.

Rodriguez has been arrested twice this offseason, most recently for DUI. While that may not be enough to get a more critical member of the franchise cut, Rodriguez falls in the band of replaceable players about whom an example can be made.

I am glad that they no longer have Greg Olsen. He would have been deadly with Marshall and Jeffery.
