Pending Trades:

Patriots trade pick #69 (Round 3) to the Steelers for ILB Larry Foote

*Patsfan01's Thoughts*: I personally think this is a great deal. We have two 3rd round picks and if we can trade down from round 1, we should be able to get an extra pick from that as well so we don't really lose all that much. Instead we are gaining a ton. Larry Foote is exactly what this football team needs. He is young (27 years old), has great size and experience in a 3-4 defense, and he has great talent. The Steelers have a bunch of talent and depth at LB so Foote probably didn't see the playing time that he wanted to, but here in New England he will be a starter from Day 1. He has a great work ethic which Finn54 will love as a HC, and he does all the little things to help a team win. He is great against the run and has improved in the passing game as well covering RB's and TE's. When I came into this offseason as the GM, I was extremely worried about our ILB's, but now I'm not as worried at all because Foote is the first step we are taking as a staff in repairing a defense with a ton of holes.

Patriots trade RT Nick Kazcur and pick #95 (Round 3) to Minnesota Vikings for Marcus Johnson and pick #83 (Round 3)

*Patsfan01's Thoughts*: Again, this is a deal that I love. When Hollywood sent me a PM about this deal, I was quick to jump on it. This deal went in all different places from the start, but I like the finalized deal the most. First with the draft picks...We lost pick #69 to the Raiders in the first deal so after round 2, our only other pick was a long way away at pick 95. So in this deal, we were able to move up 12 picks to pick 83 which is a big win for the Pats. Then to the players...We trade starting RT Nick Kazcur for a backup, Marcus Johnson. What in the world are we thinking?? I'll tell you what I am thinking. When I talked to our Head Coach, finn54, he said that he likes OL that can play multiple positions similar to what we have now with guys like Russ Hochstein who can play Guard or Center. It allows the Pats to keep less guys at one position which is big come the day we have to move the roster to only 53 players. Nick Kazcur was a guy who made me punch some walls at times. Believe it or nt, I actually broke my hand one time when he gave up a sack to Brady. He is technically sound no doubt, but he is too inconsistent for my liking and can only play RT which really limits his game. With Marcus Johnson, he has been able to play Guard or RT since entering the league. He has talent, but has never gotten the chance in Minnesota to show that talent. Here in New England under the best OL coach in the game, he has the potential to become a star at RT.

Alright guys, lets go and have some fun!!

Just some of my early thoughts:

-We need to re-sign Randy Moss early as well as a CB and a LB. We need to decide if Bruschi is going to retire as well as Seau.

-The Capologists and finn54 need to work out a deal for Moss.

-The Steelers have contacted us about Jarvis Green. They said that they have ILB depth so I'll listen to offers.

-Hollywood14, finn54, patsfreak007 can all start looking around for some trades as well as FA. THE FREE AGENCY PERIOD STARTS TUESDAY!!!!

-All the scouts including Rabbisson, you guys can start developing some sort of Pre-Scouting Combine rankings for your positions.

-PatriotsReign and Redsoxrule1437 can start looking into FA's that fit our system as well as give a write-up for where we need to look this offseason on both sides of the ball.

Even though I am a Offensive Coordinator, I believe that we just cant give away Jarvis Green. He was a huge part of the reason of our success while Seymour was on PUP. If we trade him, we would need another 3-4 end to take his place, we would have to get one through free agency or the draft. I would trade him for Larry Foote and a draft pick.

On to the Offense, as patsfan01 said, Randy Moss is the biggest need to re-sign. He would be priority number 1. I would say next on offense would be to secure the RT position. Maybe look to get a RT maybe in the 2nd or 3rd round.

QB- Need a true backup at QB, Cassel isn't the answer. Gut still needs a few years to develop. Maybe bring in a veteran backup need in free agency.

RB- Fullback isn't a need, but we could stand to get another true runningback with how much depth there is in the draft this year. Maybe 4th round.

WR. Randy Moss needs to be locked up or franchised this year. We should use the exclusive rights tag to make sure he is a patriot next year. We should try to bring back Gaff from how much he meant to our offense, he past Nico on the depth chart, and became a reliable #3 option. I would bring back Troy if he wants to come back, but he could retire.

OT- Kaczur showed us that he should be a backup. This is our second priority, to get a player who can actually play football. Draft would probably be the cheapest idea.

Interior Lineman- We are pretty set here, maybe add a little depth through the draft.

TE- All of our TE's are under contract for one more year. Not a big need this year.

No dont trade Jarvis Green. He is too important to us. If Seymour or like Warren get injured he can fill in and be productive.

All right then. I am the OLB scout and Fullback Scout.

OLB- We need youth in the Linebacker core. We have Mike Vrabel, Adalius Thomas, T.J. Slaughter, Pierre Woods. I know Mike Vrabel can play any position but he is old and both of the starting linebackers are over 30. Adalius Thomas which everyone loves cant be blitzing and covering at the same time which mean his tank might go to empty quick. We need more versitality in that position and some young guys that can step up when the veterns leave so that we have some LB's in the future.

FB- Really dont need anyone here. Have Evans who is a beast and carry the load in the redzone and plus we barely use him.

I think we should shop Jarvis Green. We should get a feel of what other teams will give us. We could always draft a replacement for him.

T.J. Slaughter is more of a ILB, and AD still has plenty in the tank, and is a much better fit at OLB rather than ILB. He really showed it in the superbowl. He was probably the only player on the defense that had a great game.

Patsfan01, do you want me to compile a Patriots trading block?

I've already had multiple PM's about it.

EDIT; I went ahead and made one. PF01 tell me if you want anybody added or off the list.

It is a short list because I feel we have a solid group of players and don't need to go trade any away.

Patriots Trading Block
1st Round Pick - 7
2nd Round Pick - 63
3rd Round Pick - 81
Matt Cassel - QB
Russ Hochstein - G
Jarvis Green - RE
Eric Alexander - LB
Pierre Woods - LB

Assuming Asante leaves to pursue a larger contract, we should pursue a corner in the first two rounds, if we go CB in the first, I'm thinking Leodis McKelvin and only him, unless we trade down. If we trade down we still could grab quality players like Mike Jenkins, DRC, or Antoine Cason. In the second round, our options are most likely limited to the likes of Charles Godfrey and if we are lucky, Patrick Lee.

In free agency, at corners we have:
Marcus Trufant
Drayton Florence
Chris Carr
Mike Lehan
Reynaldo Hill
Jacques Reeves

The only corners I think that we should pursue in FA are Trufant and Florence. The others just dont match up.

I also have a sleeper corner for the draft in Terrence Wheatley. He's been riddled by injuries and was weighed down by a poor Colorado squad.

The Steelers don't think that Green could start for them! He is a great player and would be a starter in almost any other 3-4 defense. They are saying that he was behind Mike Wright in the depth chart and were confusing Green with Warren. Is there another 3-4 team who would give more value for him? I would say keep Pierre Woods, he still has a lot of potential, and we wouldn't get much value for him.

I think that we should deff. look towards Dominque Foxworth for a replacement for Randal Gay. He would be a great nickel corner.

I posted in the Cardinals forum if they were interested in Green. Just waiting to hear back. Also isnt Pierre Woods a Free Agent?
