- The Cleveland Browns organization is not getting much respect here at the Senior Bowl. The attitude towards the Browns, specifically the front office, from personnel people around the league has ranged from disparaging to downright nasty. Several comments were passed at the South’s afternoon practice that few are surprised the Cleveland franchise cannot find a head coach considering “those in charge”. In fact choice adjectives were used by front office people here in Mobile to describe “those in charge” in Cleveland.

Poor, poor Browns.

Definitely a tough time in Cleveland right now. Any coach hired there has no job security, and it seems no one wants to work with Lombardi. Even his buddy Josh McDaniels turned him down.

They will find a head coach, someone will be desperate enough like Darrell Bevell, who has been a OC forever now. Or perhaps Dan Quinn, who is not qualified at the moment.

I feel bad for the Browns fans but the organization deserves it. Absolutely no reason Chud should have been fired. He assembled an all-star coaching staff, the defense took a considerable step forward, and Josh Gordon/Jordan Cameron emerged as a premier players in this league. If they had given Chudzinski a chance to find his QB (very well may have in Brian Hoyer) and fix their run game, they probably could have challenged in an open AFC North next year.

Aside from the Owners/GM, their next coach is stepping into a real good roster. Young, up and coming defense, and reviving options. 2 first round picks, including a Top 5. Two thirds and two fourths. Real good opportunity to add key pieces and get Cleveland over that hump.

In ESPN's NFL Nation Confidential, an anonymous survey of more than 320 players around the league, players voted the Minnesota Vikings running back the player they'd most like to see in a Super Bowl who hasn't been there yet.

Unfortunately, the management of both the Cleveland Browns and Miami Dolphins make Jerry Jones look competent. Mike Lombardi is a poor evaluator of talent. How he ever got another personnel job I'll never understand. When he was on the NFLN, nothing he ever said made any logical sense.

I think I read that Joe Banner is good friends with Lombardi, and he always wanted to work with him as GM.

I don't think even Bevell would be desperate enough to take the Cleveland job. (BTW Bevell is only on his second OC job, he hasn't been an OC "forever" and he was underqualified when he started as Vikings OC)

Goodell is proposing doing away with extra points (citing 99.1% successful attempts makes them an "automatic" anyway)...

http://www.startribune.com/sports/vikings/241349891.html

Goodell makes a nice salary, Christian Ponder makes more each year than the tax free charity NFL gives to charity...

Id say being an offensive coordinator for 8 years is a very long time, it might feel like forever for him now. Given that Bevell is young, and has spent a majority of his NFL coaching career as an OC, his next step is likely to be a head coach. He has gone on many interviews already, if he is offered the Browns job, i think he would take it in a heat beat. From a personnel stand point, Cleveland is not a bad place to go. Ownership is the real issue. They also have the 4th overall pick and there choice of Bortles or Carr.

Bevell had exactly the same amount of NFL coaching experience as both Zimmer and Norv Turner had when they got their first coordinator positions...and in the case of Norv, he only was a NFL OC for 3 years before getting his first HC job in Washington.

So, I'll disagree with you s72 on that point. However, I personally do agree that he isn't worthy of a HC job either, as he hasn't shown to be particularly to be much of a leader-type. I think he's a competent OC, but is he organized enough or communicative enough to be the head honcho? I don't believe so.

Are you sure that's a real article and not something from the Onion?

Well, it's Skip Bayless, so it's like Onion except serious.

Justin Blackmon, Jacksonville’s talented but troubled receiver, missed 12 games last season while serving two different suspensions, and he still hasn’t been reinstated by the NFL. But when Blackmon is eligible to return, the Jaguars will welcome him back.

Jaguars owner Shad Khan said on Friday that he “absolutely” wants Blackmon on his team: “It’s disappointing what happened to him, but for the young man, we want him to get his life together and be a part of the Jaguars."

Blackmon is eligible to be reinstated before the 2014 season begins.

New York got to celebrate one of its own at Radio City Music Hall, as Giants defensive end Michael Strahan led a seven-member class into the Pro Football Hall of Fame Saturday. First-ballot eligible Seahawks tackle Walter Jones and Buccaneers linebacker Derrick Brooks joined Strahan among the modern era finalists, along with Cardinals and Rams cornerback Aeneas Williams and Bills wide receiver Andre Reed.

The two seniors committee candidates, Raiders punter Ray Guy and Falcons and Eagles defensive end Claude Humphrey were also elected, meaning all seven gained at least 80 percent of the vote from the 46-member committee.
