So, it is very possible that Aaron Hernandez could be looking at life in jail?

How awful. You go from being worth 40 million dollars, to worth nothing. To *possibly* killing 3 people in about 1 years time.

I do wish people can come back and learn from their choices, but Hernandez will ever get that opportunity. He wasted his life away by being stupid and making horrible decisions, no matter what previous affiliations he had with a gang.

As far as football goes, what does New England do at Tight End now? Hope for the best from Jake Ballard and the other young players/rookies, or do they go out and sign/trade for someone?

Jaguars wide receiver Justin Blackmonís suspended for the first four regular season games, but heís eligible to participate in training camp and the preseason.

Now, thereís a chance heíll miss part of that time. According to the Florida Times-Union, Blackmon recently had groin surgery, and could be back for the start of camp in three weeks.

Not one NFL team was willing to part with even a seventh-round pick for the collection of players that were available in Thursdayís supplemental draft. At least one player had been taken in the supplemental draft in each of the previous four years.

As NFL teams become more and more profitable, they also become more and more valuable. As one league source with detailed knowledge of the manner in which league ownership works tells PFT, theyíll eventually become too valuable for one person or family to own.

Under prior (and possibly current) rules, a single family must own at least 30 percent of a team, with at least one individual in the family owning 10 percent. That rule arose from the reconfiguration of the Steelersí ownership, with several members of the family who acquired legal gaming interests that conflicted with league rules selling out, and with Art Rooney II and Dan Rooney emerging as 15-percent owners who were welded together into one 30-percent stake.

In 2011, the NFL considered dropping the minimum per-family requirement to 25 percent. Itís unclear whether the reduction was adopted.

Regardless of whether the minimum ownership stake per family is now 25 percent or 30 percent, the ever-increasing value of franchise will require further changes to the rules, because there eventually wonít be enough families with the assets to acquire a team, or with the extra cash to pay the estate taxes when the person owning the 10-percent stake passes.

Itís unclear when the problem will reach critical mass, and itís unknown how the NFL will deal with the situation. The easy answer will be to keep dropping the percentages for a single person or family. This will require each family to find more and more minority owners to hold the rest of the team.

At some point, the possibility of corporate ownership will have to be considered ó along with the prospect of making each team a publicly-traded corporation with shares of stock worth more than the frame-ready certificate on which the small piece of ownership is printed.

Texas A&M wide receiver Ryan Swope fell to the sixth round of the 2013 NFL Draft because of concerns about his concussion history in college. Those concussions have sadly ended Swope's career before it started.

The Arizona Cardinals announced Thursday that Swope was placed on the reserve/retired list. Coach Bruce Arians admitted in June that the team didn't expect Swope's concussion issues to linger into the offseason. NFL Network's Mike Mayock said during the draft that Swope suffered four concussions in college, and he suffered a setback after joining the Cardinals.

"We knew Ryan has a concussion history in college and understood that it could possibly be an issue," said Cardinals general manager Steve Keim in a statement. "But weighing all the elements -- the medical information available, the particular position in the draft -- it was a decision we were comfortable making. As it turned out, he had a setback after he got here. Over the course of the subsequent evaluations, we all decided that Ryan's long-term well-being was the No. 1 priority and this was the best course to take."

The news is as bad as it can be for receiver Jeremy Maclin. The Eagles have announced that Maclin has torn the ACL in his right knee. Heíll most likely be placed on injured reserve, ending his 2013 season.
