Alex Smith is a significant upgrade from what they had. _________________

I understand why the Chiefs made the deal. If Kolb goes for a 2nd + Rodgers-Cromartie it's fair value for Alex Smith if he's the QB he was his last two years in SF. _________________

This is the problem with it tho:
Kolb was a poor trade (2nd + Rodger-Cromartie)
Basing another deal off a poor deal will yeild a poor deal.
SF gets richer, KC doesnt get poorer, but its an opportunity loss. _________________

Considering how mediocre this draft class is at QB, it's not much of an opportunity loss. They wouldn't get a QB of Alex Smith's class even with that 2nd rd pick. _________________

Buffalo’s decision to franchise Byrd had been expected and was confirmed today by ESPN’s Adam Schefter. |

A few people mentioned him as a potential FA pickup for the Vikings...so, this will disappoint them. _________________

It was a no brainer that he was going to franchised, IMO. _________________

Does this open the door for us to sign Levitre? I'd feel much more comfortable about our OG situtation with him in the fold. _________________ "No one can disguise mediocrity better than Bill Belichick." |

Id rather not pay $7-9 million on a OG. Just doesnt seem practical given how tight money will be considering the team has yet to make any moves to clear up space. _________________

I was thinking we could land him for 5-6 mil per year. Why do you think we'd need to pay 7-9? Would you be amenable to signing him for 5-6? _________________ "No one can disguise mediocrity better than Bill Belichick." |

$5-6 is reasonable, but good guards are usually grossly overpaid if they hit the free agent market. Even then, I dont even think $5-6 on a Guard is even worth it considering that amount of money could leave the team stranded for cash as things sit.
Considering Levitre is the best starting OG on the free agent market, he should see a sizable contract. _________________

| With the way that the coaches have consistently talked about wanting consistency in the o-line, I'd be pretty surprised if they made any big moves on the line (besides resigning Loadholt long term) in free agency or in the draft. At most I'd expect a 4 round or later OG to be drafted. |

I prefer this strategy as well. If MN is spending a lot of money on a Center, eventually a LT (when Kalil gets his mega deal) and assuming Loadholt is getting $5-6M, I think there are enough pieces right there to not need to invest a lot of money in the Guard spots. As long as they are competent and can form continuity with the Tackles and Sullivan, the line should be fine. It will really be up to the offensive system and Ponder in getting the ball out.
Further, there seems to be a pretty decent success rate of finding quality mid round lineman. _________________

In an email with CSN Baltimore, Joe Flacco's agent Joe Linta said the two sides have "agreed in principle" to a new contract, though the deal is not yet finalized. Flacco's new contract is believed to be for six years at a value of more than $120 million, which will make the University of Delaware product the highest paid player in NFL history.
