Former NFL offensive lineman Steve Hutchinson, who made it to seven Pro Bowls during his 12-year career, will join the executive team of the Institute for Athletes. Among other things, Hutchinson will advise the agency’s current clients on all professional matters.

Hutchinson: “Looking back, I was lucky to play with veteran offensive lineman during my first couple of years in Seattle who taught me how to become professional. These guys were not handed anything, had no sense of entitlement, and worked hard for every opportunity and every dollar that they earned. I carried these sentiments with me throughout my entire career, whether as a captain in the locker room or at the bargaining table as NFL Players Association representative. I have learned the business of being a professional football player inside and out over these past twelve years, and I consider it to be a tremendous blessing to have the opportunity to help past the torch to the next generation of players.”

Seems like he has an interest in the business side of sports.

Interesting, i wouldnt have thought any team would have picked him up. the 49ers make sense since he is from the Bay Area.

Bethel-Thompson was in 49ers camp in 2011, so there’s some familiarity with head coach Jim Harbaugh and offensive coordinator Greg Roman. The 49ers offense has changed quite a bit from the one they were running back then, but Bethel-Thompson’s not going to have to run it unless catastrophe were to strike higher up on the depth chart.

doubtful he'll ever be more than a #3 QB. maybe a #2, but even that would need improvement from his current skillset.

Has there been any updates on Winfield? It seemed like a week ago things might have been starting to heat up or there were some rumblings but i haven't heard anything lately.

I doubt we have cap space, unless Allen or Greenway can agree to take a pay cut.

VR would be correct. We have less than $1M in cap space. We could increase that by about $1.3M by cutting AJ Jefferson though.

That would be practical. Adding Winfield means we could part ways with another CB. Since Jefferson has been working as the 5th CB, he wouldnt be needed with Winfield.

I'm unsure of what happens with the cap on Jefferson's salary that's already been paid, so if that does still count against the cap we would free up around $1M and not $1.3M.

I doubt the Vikings would want to be right up against the cap, so if Winfield would take a contract that would pay him $1.5M the rest of the season then it would be feasible.

I don't know why anyone would consider Winfield at this point...if they were going to sign him, it would have happened after the Steelers game, because it will take a little while for him to get back in football game shape.

Seahawks kicker Steven Hauschka has complicated things before with in-game injuries, but today’s might have taken the cake.

Hauschka was being evaluated for a concussion after an attempted tackle on a kickoff, leaving him unavailable for a field goal attempt to end the half.

So with regular holder Jon Ryan (the punter) forced to kick, Seahawks safety Chris Maragos was forced into duty as the holder. The snap got away from him, and when he tried to get up and do something (pass maybe, it was unathletic enough to be hard to tell), Titans cornerback Jason McCourty knocked the ball away and returned it 88 yards for a touchdown and a 10-7 lead.
