Might as well. They would have knocked a solid year off his NFL career with the way they work him. Plus, I don't know what else he could have demonstrated at the college level. Too bad the class is loaded at RB and I can't see him being in the top 3 RB picks, so he might drop out of the first.

I don't think this is a smart decision. This is a great RB draft, and Smith will face stiff competition from Mendenhall, Stewart and Felix Jones for a spot in the first round. He had a better chance of being a first-rounder in 2009.

round 2 at best. has good but not great speed and hes very shifty and has special jukes. problem is he goes down too easy, is too skinny in the lower body. he could be a nice change of pace but his body style is bad. i dont see him as an nfl tackle breaker. if you cant break nfl tackles you will not have sucess (see reggie bush) more of a space runner, but one who doesnt have the elite athleticism of a chris johnson or felix jones

Good choice by him, in my opinion. Unless he wanted a degree, this was the best time for him to come out, as he most likely won't have as monstrous of a season next year.

As to where he goes, I think I'll have him ether as four to six on my running back board. Thus, I believe he'll go anyway from the 2nd - 3rd round in the upcoming draft. If the class wasn't so deep this year, he could had very well been a first round pick.

Great decision coming out early. He already has a lot of mileage and another year would pretty much do nothing to his stock but lower it. He should be a second round pick in the draft, but the combine will really shape where he will go.

Oh boy...it's gonna hit the fan now. Might as well talk bad about Terrelle Pryor or Noel Devine while you're at it. Laughing

I don't know about 4th or 5th round, but he's a mid 2nd at the most to me.

..He's slow, not built very big...Has very below average acceleration..I just don't see it. He has no shot at going in the first 3 rounds..

He has great acceleration and burst through the hole. He doesnt have elite top end speed, but that is not the same thing as acceleration.

And his game isnt built around speed. Its built around something that translates much better than speed... vision, balance, and agility...

You are right that he could use a few pounds... but he has the frame to easily bulk up. He is 212lbs right now. I would not be supprised to see him add about 8lbs and get up to 220lbs. Its not like it would be that hard to do, especially for the NFL weight trainers. They could have him at that weight by TC...

He might even add it before the combine...

...Uh..He doesn't have great acceleration. I've seen him play before...He also doesn't have great lateral movement either, kinda sluggish at times.
