So why did the Jaguars not draft Brady Quinn? Makes no sense.
David Garrard is a good backup, but thats it.
Leftwhich isnt great, but he is better then Garrard and if they were gonna change QBs, they should have went with Quinn imo |

I would like to see Detroit pursue him. Kitna has about 1 -2 years left but Leftwich would be a good fit for Martz IMO. _________________

That just goes to show you Preseason Games are very important. People always say, It only preseason and it doesn’t really matter what you do here, but Jack Del Rio might have to say something about that.
I just wanted to say, I hope they hold on to Leftwich even if he doesn’t start. You still don’t know what you going to get with David Garrard and its good to have Leftwich at least for the year on the bench… if the Garrard experience doesn’t go well.
But on the other hand its not fair go Garrard to always look behind his shoulders and have to worry about his job. _________________

Wow, this continues to strengthen my belief that NFL scouts and management aren't the experts they claim to be. How many millions of guaranteed money have been thrown at guys who haven't proven themselves? I know this is slightly off-topic (although Leftwich is a former 1st rounder), but take a look at this list of 1st round quarterbacks that have been selected since 1997.
How many are pro-bowlers? How many are starters? How many disappointed their teams and are buried in the depth chart or are no longer in the league?
1997
Jim Drunkenmiller
1998
Peyton Manning
Ryan Leaf
1999
Tim Couch
Donovan McNabb
Akili Smith
Daunte Culpepper
Cade McCown
2000
Chad Pennington
2001
Mike Vick
2002
David Carr
Joey Harrington
Patrick Ramsey
2003
Carson Palmer
Byron Leftwich
Kyle Boller
Rex Grossman
Wow ... 7 out of 17 are starters in the league.
Makes you wonder who is next on the chopping block?
The fact that 1st rounders earn so much guaranteed money is sickening. The only reason why JaMarcus is holding out is because he knows he doesn't have the work-ethic or smarts to be a starter in this league. He will take as much as he gets and will be out of the league within the next couple years.
It is a shame Leftwich is out of Jacksonville, though I think it will be best for both parties in the long run. As a Lions fan, I wouldn't mind if they acquired a young gun. JT scares me as the backup. |

Leftwich is in trouble now; it's too late in the preseason. No way he finds a starting job after only a week of practice. Atlanta is his best shot, but at this point wrestling the job from Harrington is unlikely. Baltimore and Tampa could use him as a possible future starter. Miami, Kanas City and a few others could use him as a stop gap, but are unlikely to outbid teams who want more from him.
Back to Jacksonville, I've always liked Garrard, but his ability as a starter is still largely questionable. The Jags will still get by on the D and run game, so I don't think Brohm is a realistic goal, barring the recent trend of falls for your standard, drop back passer.
I was honestly surprised the Jags didn't pick Quinn; he was still there after they traded back, right? I think they, like every other team in Florida, will regret not taking him. _________________ Trent Edwards: 39/55, 454 yards, 2 TDs, 0 INTs

| Im shocked because i was hearin how Leftwich was supposed to do good this year, and how much Jacksonville has been workin with him. I thought this was gonna be his make or break year but, i guess it's automatically his break year, it's a shame cuz i wanted to see if he really was gonna pan out this year. Jacksonville is very lucky they have a monster running game, i can't imagine what they'd do without it. |

My gut feeling is that he ends up in Detroit. _________________

Good luck to Byron whereever he goes.... I wish him the best.
I'm excited to have David as the starting QB, he seems so happy and confident in himself and this team. It's time to get this season rolling. |

Gerrard will give you consistency, that's what you want. Having to switch starting QB's mid-way through the season every year isn't the way to win championships. Put the guy who's going to give you every game. _________________

It seems like most Jags fans on this site agree that Garrard is horrible. Yet JDR deems him a better option than Byron Leftwich. So should it surprise anyone to hear that Leftwich isn't a good QB? I don't understand why people are so surprised by this. By the reactions of some Jags fans in this thread, you'd think this was Belichick cutting Kosar all over again. People got way too caught up in Leftwich's play as a glorified game manager in 2005 and fail to realize that he as always been average. _________________ "The really important kind of freedom involves attention, and awareness, and discipline, and effort, and being able truly to care about other people and to sacrifice for them, over and over, in myriad petty little unsexy ways, every day.” |
