about half way down the page is the story.
From what I understand this was a cap issue. Gabriel was due to make 1.7 million. He could be a fairly nice pick up for a team looking for WR depth. His measurables are fairly impressive....or I should say they used to be. _________________ "22 players are involved in every football play. Man, what the hell is up with teams passing on this guy? I could somewhat understand the Pats releasing him after trading a 5th round pick for him because he didn't fit the offense as well as they thought he would, and he had some motivation issues [supposedly]. But hell, the guy is TALENTED. He could easily be a starter on some teams [Atlanta, Minnesota, Buffalo, etc].
Someone's gonna get a major bargain for picking him up. _________________

I started a thread in the Browns forum about this. I really hope Cleveland takes a good, hard look at Gabriel. No one has stepped up and taken our #3 WR job. Braylon Edwards, Joe Jurevicius, Josh Cribbs and Travis Wilson (despite a VERY inconcistent camp) are all expected to make our team. Gabriel is far more talented and accomplished than the hodge podge currently competing for the last roster spot... Syndric Steptoe, Tim Carter and Steve Sanders .
And he's only 26 years old.
His stats over the past 3 years are fairly impressive... 101 grabs, 1550 yards, 15.3 YPC and 8 TDs in part time duty.
Unless there is a secret red flag, I would think that multiple teams will be bidding for Gabriel's services. _________________

| Interesting, he's an interesting player with potential. Could be a solid pickup for someone in need. |

This would be a great pickup for a team, wonder why he got cut by the RAIDERS. _________________

Well with Jerry Porter no longer in Art Shell's dog house, Ronald Curry emerging last year (led the league in catches over the last 4 games with 33 catches), the addition of Mike Williams, the drafting of Johnnie Lee Higgins, and Doug Gabriel's 1.7 million cap figure it makes sense why the Raiders would part ways with him. _________________ "22 players are involved in every football play. The Raiders need to make up their mind with him. Do they keep him or let him go? They traded him to the Patriots, then I believe the Pats released him then, the Raiders picked him up, and now they let him go again. _________________ Adopt-a-Ram: Brian Quick - 11 receptions, 156 yards, 2 TDs |

'Cept Curry... | What's so special about him? He's a decent [read: average] #2/slot guy, but I wouldn't envy a team if he was their #1 option. _________________

im not saying our starting WRs are as good as yours, but Porter and Curry aren't bad. _________________ If the Raiders don't trade back at 3, I want Fisher, Ziggy, or Star. |
