Key Game: Week 14 vs. New Orleans Saints

It’s late in the year and both division rivals could be vying for a playoff spot. It is a Monday Night game at home for the Falcons so both the fans and players will be pumped and ready to get this game under way. Falcons will have the momentum early being at home and ultimately, this game could determine the playoff positioning.

Arrow Key Losses

1. QB Michael Vick - It isn't official yet but Michael Vick's future in ATL isn't looking too bright and it doesn't look as if he will see much (if any) playing time this season. The dogfighting expert and his pitbulls have caused Vick a lot of legal trouble this year, and Roger Goddell will punish him for it. We all know Vick is one of the most exciting players in the league with his scrambling ability and arm, and he definately will be missed. To replace Vick the Falcons backup QB Joey Harrington will have to step in and carrty the load and that has to scare the hell out of Falcons fans. Joey is going to have to live up to his potential quickly in order for the Falcons passing game to be successful. Losing Vick is definately a huge blow to this team especially when Harrington is the replacement.

2. DE Patrick Kerney - While Patrick Kerney didn't have the best of years last year the Falcons definately know what he is capable of. Kerney is one of the better pass rushers in the league and he brought a lot of energy to this Falcons defense. In 2004 Kerney recorded a career high 13 sacks, and while he hasn't been a 13 sacks man the last few years he is still capable of doing so. To replace Kerney the Falcons drafted talented DE Jamaal Anderson and he has the potential to be a top tier DE in this league. The Falcons didn't lost a lot with Kerney but replacing him with Anderson makes the loss of Kerney a little less impactful.

3. CB Jason Webster - Webster was the starting CB opposite of DeAngelo Hall last year but he got hurt mid-season. Webster wasn't the best starting CB but he was decent during his tenure in ATL. To replace Webster the Falcons added CB Chris Houston in the 2nd round of the draft. Houston could be viewd as an improvement over Webster by some and Webster wasn't really a key loss.

4. QB Matt Schaub - Losing Matt Schaub meant very little to the Falcons to begin with because Michael Vick was holding down the starting job and Schaub wouldn't have done much anyway. However due to the dogfighting saga, Michael Vick won't be the starter heading into the season, and probably will not play this year. Schaub is a loss because instead of him being the starter in ATL Joey Harrington is, and I am sure that the ATL faithful would rather have Schaub as their starter. Schaub is now the full-time starter in HOU, and if Harrington fails, Schaub will be missed in ATL.

Arrow Key Pickups

1. DE Jamaal Anderson - Anderson is the best all-around DE in this draft class as he brings it as a pass rusher and as a run stopper for ATL. Expect this guys to fill Patrick Kerney shoes well, and develop into a top notch DE in this league. This guy has a lot of potential and expect he and John Abraham to be hell for opposing offensive lines. With this addition expect the Falcons to definately improve upon the mark of 37 sacks from last year.

2. WR Joe Horn - While Horn is getting up there in years he still brings veteran leadership to this Falcon offense, and should produce rather well this year. The 35 year old Horn has eclipsed the 1,000 yard mark since 2004 due to injuries but is still capable of doing so. With Michael Vick not at QB scaring the hell out of defenses being a running threat, defenses will definately be more comfotbale against the Falcon offense which means the WRs will have to step up. Horn is definately the best WR of the group and he will have to step up in order for Joey to have any success through the air. He and Crumpler are definately the keys to this passing offense.

3. CB Chris Houston - Houston is definately one of the more underrated pickups of the offseason as his ability to shut WRs down in man-to-man coverage will definately be a welcome addition to the 29th ranked pass defense in the NFL. Houston and Hall will definately make up one of the better CB tandems in the league and expect Houston to shut your #2 WR down this year. Houston actually has the potential to be the #1 CB on a team but unless DeAngelo really loses it that will not happen. Houston was a nice pickup for the Atlanta Falcons.

4. OG Justin Blalock - Justin was the 2nd best Guard in the draft and he should develop into a solid interior offensive lineman for the Falcons. The kid is a dynamite run blocker, and a solid pass blocker. Blalock has experience against top notch schools, and expect him to step in and start for ATL from Day 1 at LG. Blalcok was the #1 OG heading into the season and he has the potential to be one of the better guards in the NFL.

Honorable Mention: FB Ovie Mughelli

Arrow Draft Pick Analysis (pick by pick)

Round 1, Pick 8: Jamaal Anderson, DE, Arkansas

Jamaal is very athletic, fast, and is probable the most well rounded defensive end of the draft class. Not only is Anderson a gifted athlete with great pass rushing skills, he also holds his own as a run stopper. He is a physical specimen, and has a great motor. He had a very productive junior season which allowed him to rise up the draft boards. He is not as polished a pass rusher or fast as Gaines Adams; but, he is more well rounded – while Adams reminds you of Dwight Freeney, Anderson reminds you of Julius Peppers and he has that kind of potential. Great pick for Atlanta, replacing Patrick Kerney and helping John Abraham along the line.

Round 2, Pick 39: Justin Blalock, OG, Texas

Justin Blalock is a mauler; he is very strong, physical, aggressive, and has a great motor. He has everything you look for in a big guard. He is not very athletic, though and will struggle against quicker pass rushers; but, if he stops you at first, that defensive lineman will not get past him with his use of hands and his great technique. He was ranked as the #1 OG leading up to the draft; but, a more athletic Ben Grubbs soared up the draft board right before the draft. With his experience, and productivity – Blalock should be able to start for Atlanta right from day 1.

Round 2, Pick 41: Chris Houston, CB, Arkansas

Houston is athletic, and physical and can play both man-to-man and zone coverage. He is pretty much an all around CB and should be able to start for Atlanta from day 1. While DeAngelo Hall is more of a playmaking corner, Houston will be able to shut you down. I would not be surprised if Houston were to be Atlanta’s #1 corner, shutting guys down while other teams throw it to Hall’s side and he makes plays. Houston completes this secondary.

Round 3, Pick 75: Laurent Robinson, WR, Illinois St.

Robinson is a physical player with a good blend of size and speed to go along with that. He can be a deep threat, or he can run across the middle and fight for the ball. He is a complete receiver; but still needs solid coaching yet – his only downfall is lack of top competition. He most likely will not start this year; but, he can find himself anywhere from 3rd to 5th on the depth chart.

Round 4, Pick 109: Stephen Nicholas, OLB, South Florida

Stephen Nicholas is a very underrated player. He is a leader, loves the game, and does what ever it takes to win. On top of that, he is very fast and athletic – he has the physical tools and the attitude, two key things that should make him a great linebacker in this league, Nicholas is always running sideline-to-sideline, around the ball and making a tackle – he is a playmaker and he is a very good fit for Atlanta’s defense. With Demorrio Williams out with an injury, Nicholas could start.

Round 4, Pick 133: Martrez Milner, TE, Georgia

Milner is very big, has great speed, and tremendous athleticism. He is a playmaker in his own right and he is very hard to take down. He is very aggressive and he is a great blocker – he is a well rounded TE – his only flaw’s are lack of experience and dropped passes. However, with Alge Crumper, Milner will be allowed time to develop and learn from Crumpler while working on his hands. In a couple of years he will be asked to contribute, though.

Round 6, Pick 185: Trey Lewis, DT, Washburn

Lewis has nice side and displays a good mix of speed, and burst. He is disciplined at the point of attack and is a tremendous run stopper. With his speed and athleticism, he could also be a great pass rusher; but, still needs to develop in that area. Lewis was a steal this late and with the lack of depth at the position, he could find himself a spot in the rotation.

Round 6, Pick 194: David Irons, CB, Auburn

Irons is athletic and fast with fluid hips and flips them well. He looks very natural as a defensive back and has all the tools to become great; but, with intelligence issues – it will take longer for him to develop and learn the scheme. He won’t play anytime soon; but, he could make a name for himself in special and if he stays healthy (durability is a concern as well) and his development goes well, he should be able to start in 3-4 years.

Round 6, Pick 198: Doug Datish, C, Ohio St.

Datish is very athletic and versatile. Datish was very productive in college and had a lot of starting experience, playing at all 3 interior positions. Datish is also very intelligent and is a hardworker. He should become a very valuable backup to Atlanta, if nothing else.

Round 6, Pick 203: Daren Stone, S, Maine

Stone has very good size, speed, and athleticism. Very physical open-field tackler with the range to make plays along the perimeter. He is tremendous in run coverage and is like an extra LB on the field, very explosive, and is a hard hitter. He is a great tackler and will do well playing in the box. He has room to add bulk to his frame, and if he does that might be switched to a LB. He is very raw and will probable have much playing time and he is a liability in pass coverage; but, with Lawyer Milloy, he could be groomed into a starter.

Round 7, Pick 244: Jason Snelling, FB, Virginia

Jason Snelling is more of a runner then a traditional blocking FB. He is very big and is a bruising runner. Once his legs are moving and he is in the open field, he is very hard to bring down because of his size and ability to just knock you down. With smaller backs such as Warrick Dunn and Jerrious Norwood atop of the depth chart, Atlanta needed some thunder to their running game. Snelling has a chance to become Atlanta’s 3rd string RB and have a more significant role on the team then you might think.

Arrow Head Coaching Changes

Bobby Petrino - Bobby Petrino is one of the better offensive coaches in the league today as he helped develop Louisville into one of the top offenses in college football during his 4-year tenure. Petrino had a 41-9 record during his tenure in Louisville and overall he should help improve this Atlanta offense. Petrino originally designed the offense for Michael Vick, but due to Vick's projected absence this year the offense will be somewhat limited. Still, Petrino's offense should be effective as he has two decent running backs to, a Top TE, and some young talented WRs to work with.

Arrow Statistics that Standout

31st in Adjusted Sack Rate - The Falcons offensive line definately was not very good in pass protection as had the lowest amount of pass attempts in the league, one of the most elusive QBs in the league and still gave up 47 sacks. This stat shows how bad this O-line was in pass protection, and when you give up that many sacks in those conditions it is not good. Imagine if Joey Harrington was back there instead of Vick! This O-Line should get a boost in pass protection w/Justin Blalock but overall this unit could not protect the passer. Blalcok can only do so much and expect this pass protection to still be among the worst in the league. The thing that makes this worse is the fact that 3 current of the starters played in all 16 games last year and it wasn't even a result of injuries.

Arrow Most Overrated Player: Michael Vick

Yes, Vick is blessed with second to none speed and athleticism and is a great scrambler because of it; but, he has never been a successful passer. Through out his career, Vick has posted an abysmal 53.8 completion percentage, although a large part of that may be due in part of the receiving corp. Vick has to be blamed for this lethargic completion percentage, he is notorious for inaccurate passes and this stat speaks volumes. Also, Vick has only passed for 20 touchdowns in one season and still has not broke 3,000 yards passing in one season. Vick is a game changer no doubt, and is a playmaker with his feet; but, he will never be a super bowl winning QB unless he devotes more of his time to passing plays – his philosophy is run 1st, pass 2nd – the complete opposite of what a QB should be.
Honarable mentions – DeAngelo Hall and Keith Brooking.

Arrow Most Underrated Player: Warrick Dunn

Although plagued by injuries, in every season he has played at least 16 games he has had an 1,000 yard season. He is very consistent, and is a slashing runner posting a career 4.2 yards per run average and posting as high as 5.4. He has done all of this being while being in a two back system. The year he was finally looked at as the #1 guy was in 2005, and he had the stats posting a career high 1,416 rushing yards and afterwards, he is splitting carries again with the promising young player; Jerrious Norwood and he may not even start this year. Although he is small and needs a 2nd RB to do damage, he is an elite RB and he was never considered as such because of the two back systems he has been in throughout his career.

Arrow Most Important Player: Alge Crumpler

With no other established weapon or playmaker, Alge Crumpler is still the Falcons most important player. Crumpler is always a consistent option and drops very few passes. He is their 3rd down option and with his mix of size and speed, he is their only playmaker to speak of. With Vick out and only one veteran option outside of him in Joe Horn (who has lost a step and is definitely not the same player) Crumpler will be an integral part to this scheme and will be looked at the most by Joey Harrington, especially in pressure situations and short to intermediate passes.

Arrow 3 Keys to Success

1. Can the offensive line perform without Vick? With questions that this wasn’t a very good offensive line, can they play better with a less mobile QB in Harrington? Joey is capable of scrambling; but, he is more of a pocket passer and makes terrible decisions under pressure, so if Vick did make this line look better, they must cohese in training camp and pre-season in order to give Joey Harrington enough time to succeed.
2. 2nd receiving option must stand up. Alge Crumpler can’t do it by himself, another option must break out. Whether that maybe Roddy White, Michael Jenkins, Laurent Robinson, Brian Finneran or Joe Horn – someone has to emerge as that 2nd option and if Crumpler is locked down, they have to be a go-to option.
3. Defensive line must get more pressure. The Falcons leading sack leader last year was Rod Coleman with 6 – although he has been successful in the pass as a pass rusher, that was a disappointing year for him and he may not even start this year. However, I do feel everything is in place for this line to succeed. They have two great pass rusher in Abraham (who had a disappointing season last year) and Anderson, a big nose tackle in Grady Jackson to hog up the double teams, two pass rushing DT’ in Babineaux and Coleman and a good rotation. It’s in place, they just need to stay consistent and help the back 7.

Arrow Position by Position Grades & Projected Starters

Offensive Grades

QB: Starter Joey Harrington D - Well Joey has another shot to try to prove that he isn't dogmeat, and he isn't in too great of a position to succeed. He has a nice little duo of RBs, a top tier TE, some below average WRs, and one of the worst o-lines in the league as far as pass protection is concerned. Joey will definately have to step up his game if this offense is going anywhere, but don't get your hopes too high about him doing so. He isn't in the greatest of positions to succeed, and still has proven to be a solid QB in this league.

RB: Starter Jerious Norwood C- - Jerious Norwood managed to end the season with a whopping 6.4 YPC average and will be stepping in as the full time starter in ATL. As seen last year Norwood has the potential to be one of the better RBs in the league and look for him to get a lot of touches in this offense. Warrick Dunn is definately on the downside of his career but he is still one of the top backup RBs in the league as his speed is still dangerous. This duo definately should be able to produce this year. This position gets a C because Jerious hasn't proven he can carry the load as a full-time starter but it definately should improve come seasons start.

WR: Starters Joe Horn/Michael Jenkins D+ - Neither of these starting WRs went over the 700 yard mark last year and the Falcons really weren't a passing team. The veteran Horn battled some injuries last year in NO and he should be able to step up and produce in this offense. Michael Jenkins was far from stellar as well last year catching 47% of the balls thrown his way and overall not really being the quality threat that the Falcons need him to be. These two guys along with the inconsistent Roddy White are going to have to get open for Joey Harrington and they'll have to produce.

TE: Starter Alge Crumpler B+ - Expect Harrington and this Crumpler cat to connect a lot this year as Crumpler is still going to be the #1 target in this offense. The WRs don't look too good but Crumpler is the bright spot for this passing attack. Crumpler was targeted over 100 times last year and expect more of the same this year. Crumpler is a Top 5 TE and Crumpler should have some nice stats this year.

OL: Starters Wayne Gandy/Justin Blalock/Todd McClure/Kynan Forney/Tood Weiner C- - Well these guys could definately run block last year as they sported the #1 rushing offense in the NFL last year (even though som can be credited to Vick). The running game should have no problem but the pass protection worries me. As stated above this offensive like ranked 31st (only ahead of the Raiders) in the sack rate statitsics and the only thing they have done to improve that is drafting Justin Blalock. I don't expect this O-line to be too much better than it was last year, but pass protection is definately a concern.

Offense Overall D+ The loss of Michael Vick really hurts this offense, and overall this group of guys doesn't look too scary, and won't do too much damage this year. Having Joey Harrington at the helm with questionable pass protection is never a recipe for success and the passing game (besides Crumpler) will struggle. The running game will once again be the achilles heel for this team and a Jerious Norwood and this offensive line are going to have to step up.

Defensive Grades

DE: Starters - Jamaal Anderson/John Abraham BThis pass rush will be one of the best in the NFL as Anderson and Abraham will be bringing it off of the edge. Anderson has the potential to be the next Julius Peppers, and Abraham can flat out rush the passer. This is a position to get excited about if you're a Falcons fan as the potential/talent is there and the edge rush should be pretty good. Anderson is still unproven though.

DT: Starters – Grady Jackson/Rod Coleman B-These two guys can stuff the running lanes and are the key reason that this team was able to hold offense to a measly 3.7 YPC (6th in the league). This Front 4 is among the best and most talented in the NFL and they will hopefully lead this team to some wins.

LB: Starters – Michael Boley/Keith Brooking/Demorrio Williams B- - This is a solid group of backers as they have Keith Brooking in the middle and two solid young OLBs in Demorrio Williams and Michael Boley. Expect this group to be a bright spot for this Falcons defense if these guys play up to their potential.

DB: Starters – DeAngelo Hall/Chris Houston/Lawyer Milloy/Chris Crocker C- This defense was looking so good until you get to the secondary (the safeties especifically). DeAngelo Hall is a decent CB but he is overrated, and Chris Houston's future is looking really bright. However the safeties with Chris Crocker and Lawyer Milloy really bring this group down. These two guys are the reason that the Falcons were bottom half of the league in pass defense as Milloy has definately lost a step and Crocker is definately a below average starter. The CBs look good (w/potential) and the safeties don't. This secondary gets a C- but if Houston lives up to the hype this grade will definately go up some, but the safeties bring this group down.

Defense Overall B- This defense definately has some bright spots and some nice potential but the secondary really brings them down. ATL has a very good Front 7 though (one of the best in the league) and it is the front 7 that doesn't get too much credit. Overall expect this defense to win games for this team because the offense doesn't look too bright.

Arrow Conclusion

This team has Joey Harrington at QB which isn't good, some below average WRs, and a suspect line in pass protection. No matter how good the TE and RB may be that is definately not a recipe for success. Unless a lot of guys step up this offense won't do much at all really and Alge Crumpler can't do it all. On defense the Falcons definately have some young talent and have the potential to devlop into one of the better defenses in the NFL. Guuys like Jamal Anderson, Chris Houston, and Demorrio Williams have the future looking bright for this ATL defense. Overall this offense is not going to be scoring much, and the defense will be what puts games in the win column. With Michael Vick this is a .500 team w/o him (and Joey Harrington instead) they are below .500.

Key Game
Week 1 @ Jacksonville

It's the first game of the season and both teams will look to come out firing. The Titans will be looking to ride on their success from last year and defeat a division rival. This game will really set the tone for Tennessee this year, and to stay in this very tough AFC South division, they must have a good division record.

Arrow Key Losses

1. RB Travis Henry - Travis Henry quietly had a very good year for the Titans last year and was the main reason that the Titans had a 5th ranked rushing offense last year. Henry had 270 carries, for 1211 yards, 7 TDs and a 4.5 yards per carry average. The running game led by Henry was the only true bright spot in the Titans offense but that bright spot is now gone. The Titans have done nothing to replace him in the offseason and are counting on rookie Chris Henry and LenDale White to fill his shoes. The running game isn't looking too bright for the Titans and neither is any other part of the offense. This was one of the more underrated losses in the offseason and this Titans running game will definately struggle unless LenDale White, Chris Brown and Chris Henry step up big time.

2. CB/KR/PR Adam "Pacman" Jones - While Pacman Jones is still on the Titans roster we all know that Pacman has been handed a year-long suspension by commissioner Roger Godell. Pacman was the best CB on the Titans roster last year and was also a quality kick and punt returner. Pacman's presence will definately be missed and this Titans secondary which ranked 27th last year in pass defense will struggle without him. Pacman recorded 4 INT's and had 8 passes defended on the year both totals higher than any other CB on the Titans current roster. The Titans have made strides to improve the secondary and replace Pacman by drafting Michael Griffin and signing Nick Harper but Pacman still was a huge loss.

3. WR Drew Bennett - Vince Young will be losing his favorite target at WR as Drew Bennett the team's leading WR in receptions, YPC and yards will be moving on to the Rams. Bennett finished the season with 46 catches, 737 yards, 3 TDs, and a 16.0 YPC average. Bennett's 6'5 206 frame will definately be missed in the redzone and the Titans haven't done enough to replace him. Look for the passing attack that ranked 30th in the league last year to ultimately struggle again this year with this loss.

4. WR Bobby Wade - The Titans 2nd best WR behind Drew Bennett is also gone putting Vince Young in an even tougher situation. Bobby Wade didn't have too good of a season statistically but good enough to make him the 2nd best WR on the Titans roster last year which says something about the Tennessee passing game. Wade recorded 33 receptions for 461 yards, 2 TD's, with a 14.0 YPC average last season. Those may not be big numbers but Wade was Vince's 2nd favorite target and now his #1 and #2 targets from last year are gone from an already abysmal passing attack. The Titans haven't done much to replace them and are counting on rookies Paul Williams, Chris Davis, and FA additions Justin Gage, and Eric Moulds to salvage one of the worst passing attacks in the league. Moulds being on the definate downside of their respective careers, and the rest of the group hase proved very little in the NFL as a whole.

Arrow Key Pickups

1. CB Nick Harper - To replace Pacman Jones the Titans went after CB Nick Harper and free agency. Harper may not be as physically gifted as Pacman but he is an intelligent CB that should be good inn this Titans secondary. Coming off of a SB victory Harper knows what it feels like to win and hopefully for the Titans he can add a winning attitude to the defense. Harper doesn't shy away from contact and is a decent tackler and pretty good in coverage as well. While he may not be Pacman Jones he is still a quality corner and should be a decent addition.

2. CB Michael Griffin - Even though the Titans plan on using him at the CB position which isn't really a smart move, Griffin is a very skilled player and he adds a lot of versatility to this defense. He can hit, he can cover, and he is an all-around good safety. This Titans secondary isn't great by any strecth of the imagination but if everything works out guys like Lamont Thompson, Chris Hope, Nick Harper, Reynaldo Hill, Bryan Scott and Michael Griffin could surprise some people. There are many secondaries better and they haven't done much to improve from 30th in pass defense, but the potential to do so is there and there is a lot of it.

3. WR Paul Williams - It is obvious that you haven't been very active in FA when your third round draft pick registers as your 3rd best pickup but Paul Williams is a guy that many (including HIDM and I) considered a sleeper. Before Williams had his mediocore senior campaign he was a potential first round draft pick in many people's eyes. He has nice size, nice speed, and has a lot of upside. He isn't in a great position to succeed in this offense but he has the potential to be a very good WR in this league.

Arrow Draft Pick Analysis (pick by pick)

Round 1, Pick 19: Michael Griffin, DB, Texas - Michael Griffin is truly an all-around defensive back. He has the speed to get anywhere on the field, and the intelligence and aggressiveness to make any play on the field. He is always around the ball, whether he is delivering the big hit on the ball carrier, or covering a wide receiver and making a play on the ball. Griffin is a great tackler, a playmaker, and possesses great cover skills. There really isn’t a flaw in his game. The Titans have themselves a heck of a player and he should really help their defensive backfield if he lives up to his potential. However, the Titans could of (and should of) added one of the many threats at WR in order to help bolster this passing attack and give Vince Young another weapon. Griffin is still a very good player.

Round 2, Pick 50: Chris Henry, RB, Arizona - Henry shows a lot of promise, but as it stands he is a project and will most likely not see playing time his rookie year. He will give Chris Brown some competition; but, he will not touch the ball too often. Henry has excellent size, and very physical and athletic. He truly is an all around runner, he has the power to knock into you and the speed and elusiveness to run around you. He can be an inside or outside runner. If he develops and shows what he can do, he can become a workhorse, but he needs to develop first.

Round 3, Pick 80: Paul Williams, WR, Fresno St. - Paul Williams is a big sleeper of mine coming into the draft. He is still relatively raw and his love for the game has been questioned. He’s very big, physical, and is very athletic and fast. He reminds me a lot of Terrell Owens and I think he can play like T.O. with the right coaching. It’s going to take a couple of years, but when this kid develops he should be a great target for Vince Young.

Round 4, Pick 14: LeRoy Harris, OL, NCST. - Harris shows a lot of athleticism and versatility. Playing at NCST. Harris played all three interior positions and had a lot of success doing it. He is very strong and will drive the defenders back, he is also very quick and can get to the 2nd level. He is also very tough and will never give up on a play and keeps fighting until after the whistle blows. This kid shows a lot of promise and should become a very valuable backup with his versatility. However he is very raw and needs to develop before he can be considered a quality starter. His versatility though and natural ability make him a valuable asset.

Round 4, Pick 128: Chris Davis, WR, Florida St. - He shows a lot of speed, elusiveness and instincts. He has great body control and will make the tough catch. His feet are always moving and he will adjust towards the ball. He is more of a deep threat reciever and with his size, maybe better suited as a kick returner in the pros. Won’t likely become a starter; but, he could become a very valuable backup coming in on deep situations and has the makings of becoming a great KR.

Round 5, Pick 152: Antonio Johnson, DT, Mississippi St. - Didn’t play much for Mississippi St. He was mostly used as a rotational DT. Showed a lot of promise at the senior bowl, holding his ground in the running game and showcasing his speed getting to the QB. However, he still does not look like a starting DT. Very athletic for a man his size, explodes off the snap – great first step, changes direction well and has closing speed. Doesn’t look like a starter for the Titans; but, he can come in on running situations and shut down the run. Should become a very valuable rotational player in this league.

Round 6, Pick 188: Joel Filani, WR, Texas Tech - Was a true playmaker at Texas Tech. Not very fast, but he is very explosive and gets off the line of scrimmage fast to evade physical corners. He is very physical himself and is not afraid to go across the middle. He is a leader, and a hard worker. Could become a legit slot option for the Titans in 2007.

Round 6, Pick 204: Jacob Ford, DE, Central Arkansas - This guy is a physical specimen, who shows a lot of promise in rushing the passer. He’s very fast, explosive, and athletic and has all the physical tools to become a great pass rusher. Doesn’t have a great technique and will struggle against big and quick lineman. May be moved to LB to take advantage of his speed and range. Has a legit shot to make the roster, he’s very hardworking and his physical tools are undeniable, he is very raw though. With good coaching, he could become something special. He’s going to have to play in special teams if he wants any shot at all in making the team.

Round 7, Pick 223: Mike Otto, OT, Purdue - Otto is a big steal this late in the draft. Otto is a four year starter at Purdue and he showed a lot of quickness, athleticism, toughness and that willingness to block. He’s very intelligent, hardworking and showed a lot of ability to pass block and with his willingness, he can become a better pass blocker. With what he has to offer, he can find himself as a starting left tackle in the NFL someday. Titans have themselves quite a steal this late.

Arrow Head Coaching Changes

None.

Arrow Statistics that Standout

Titans 5th in Rushing Offense - Yes we all know that you can credit some of this to Vince Young's scrambling ability, but the thing that really stood out is how important Travis Henry was to this offense. Yes Vince Young is good but 1,211 of those yards can be credited to Henry. The running game enabled this team to win for the most part (led by Young and Henry) and one big piece of it is now gone. In order for this offense to have any success the Titans RB's are going to have to really step their game up and I don't think they are going to do so. LenDale White is not the most motivated, and has been battling weight problems this offseason and unless he completely changes his attitude (unlikely) he will not have very much success this year. Chris Brown has the ability to be a very good RB in the NFL but he has been inconsistent and hasn't been able to stay healthy. Chris Henry is an amazing athlete but extremely raw and has many things he needs to learn before he can be a quality back in the NFL. Overall these three guys don't look as if they are going to fill Travis Henry's shoes rather well, and the running game which carried this offense last year won't be nearly as strong as it was last year.

Arrow Most Overrated Player

Vince Young - The true definition of overrated is when a QB with a 51.5 completion percentage, more INT's than TDs, and a 66.7 overall passer rating is on the cover of Madden 2008. Shocked The man had no weapons you can use that as an excuse, but his passing mechanics and decision making are far from perfect as the numbers above indicate. This guy can scramble and is an incredible athlete but really needs to improve his passing skills in order to be a very good QB in this league. He has no weapons to help him out and this guy down the road will get the same criticism that Michael Vick has been receiving ever since entering the NFL. He is a rookie and a very good player with a lot of upside but he is given a lot more credit than he deserves.

Arrow Most Underrated Player

Keith Bulluck - As an NFL player, Keith Bulluck is the whole package. He’s very athletic, fast, can run sideline to sideline and still make the play, intelligent, a playmaker, and he’s always around the ball making the tackle. He’s a tremendous tackler, one of the best in the entire NFL. Keith is also a leader and passionate plus he’s a very hardworker and does whatever it takes to win. To me (HIDM), he is a top 5 LB in this league and the best OLB. He is now in his 8th season and he’s only starting to get recognition, he’s been great his entire career and no one really gives this man the credit he deserves.

Arrow Most Important Player

Chris Brown - He is the RB that has the most experience and the RB that needs to step up in order for this running to go anywhere. Brown has all the ability and the Titans desperately need him to stay healthy and produce. With an upright running style and a one cut down the field mentality, Brown reminds me (HIDM) of Erick Dickerson. With his physical play though its hard for him to stay healthy but if he does this Titans offense may be able to do something. He is the guy that needs to be able to carry the load because things don't look too promising for LenDale White and Chris Henry. At least not this year.

Arrow 3 Keys to Success

1. Vince Young needs to continue to be a playmaker like he was near the end of last year and be more consistent passing the ball despite his lack of weapons.

2. Young guys like LenDale White, Paul Williams, Michael Griffin, Stephen Tulloch, and Randy Starks are going to have to step up.

3. The offensive line must step up because the RB position isn't looking to good and Vince Young doesn't have many weapons to throw too. These guys weren't bad at all last year but they are going to have to be even better for this offense to succees.

Arrow Position by Position Grades & Projected Starters

Offensive Grades

QB: Starter - Vince Young C - The guy can make plays no doubt with his feet but he has to establish himself much better as a passer in this league before he is anything more than average. There is quality depth behind Young including veteran Kerry Collins and Tim Rattay. Either of these backups can step in and contribute if need be and many teams cannot say that. Young is an average starter in this league as of now and since depth at the QB position really means nothing unless someone is hurt the position as a whole gets a C.

RB: Starter - Lendale White/Chris Brown D - LenDale White's work ethic should cost this unit as he should get the majority of the carries. If he completely turns around his attitude he could do pretty well but expect LenDale to have an up and down year. Chris Brown when healthy can be a force but is inconsistent as well with his health and on field play. These two guys haven't been very productive recently and while they may be able to put up decent numbers it will mostly be because of the offensive line. They have a lot of potential though.

TE: Starter - Ben Troupe C - Ben Troupe is a solid pass catching tight end and he can do some damage, and Bo Scaife is a quality backup. Neither of these guys are no more than average TE's but when you put them together they make up a pretty decent duo. Expect Young to hit the TE position a lot more since he doesn't have Bobby Wade and Drew Bennett to throw to, and he threw to them a lot last year anyway.

WR: Starters - Eric Moulds/Brandon Jones?? D+ - The WR position for the Titans has some veteran leadership with Eric Moulds and some young talent with guys like Paul Williams and Brandon Jones. While it is too early to actually determine who the starters may be the position has some nice potential but doesn't seem as if they will be doing much.

OL: Starters - Michael Roos/Jacob Bell/Kevin Mawae/Benji Olson/David Stewart C+ - This group hasn't changed much from last year and these guys weren't bad at all statistically. They had the 10th fewst sacks allowed and helped lead this offense to be 5th in rushing offense. Kevin Mawae is one of the best center's in the league no doubt and the rest of this line stayed healthy most of last year and did rather well. This starting unit should build on that chemistry from last year and should definately be above average. This line is going to have to step up in order for this offense to be successful.

Offense Overall D+ - This team has a QB that can make plays but he really needs to improve with the passing. They have 2 RBs with talent but there are still some big questions as to what to expect from them. The WR core is definately not in the best of condition and young guys must step up in order for the passing game to work. This offensive line is very talented but they definately have their work cut out for them for this offense to be successful. This offense as a whole has a lot of question marks and the season doesn't look to bright for Vince and crew.

Defensive Grades

DE: Starters - Kyle Vanden Bosch/Travis LaBoy C- Kyle Vanden Bosch is a solid DE a is rather productive in stopping the run and rushing the passer. He is not in that upper tier of DE's but has recently been doing his job rather well with 19 sacks in 2 years. Travis LaBoy on the other hand is solid but not very productive. Their starting duo is middle of the pack but what makes them below average at this position is the depth. The backup DE's had a combined 0.5 sacks last year and Vanden Bosch and LaBoy can't do it alone.

DT: Starters - Randy Starks/Albert Haynesworth C+ - Starks is solid with potential but Haynseworth is an all around DT. He is big enough to support double teams, and quick enough to evade them and get to the QB. With Haynseworth next to him, Starks should have no trouble getting to the QB with his speed. The Titans have nice backups with a young NT in Mahelona, and a veteran in Tony Brown. Antonio Johnson might also find a way into the rotation. This is a pretty good DT group and they average out at C+.

LB: Starters - David Thornton/Keith Tulloch/Keith Bullock B+ - The Titans have two great OLB’s in Bulluck in Thorton but it still remians to be seen how Thornton performs in the new scheme. Tulloch is relatively unproven, but should do well with Bulluck and Thornton next to him. The backups are all young, but I really want to see how Terna Nande will perform. Overall with the strength that this team has at OLB with Bulluck and Thornton and a young talented kid like Tulloch this is a pretty good group of LBs.

DB: Starters Nick Harper/Michael Griffin/Chris Hope/Lamont Thompson C- - Nick Harper was just signed and was great in Ind but it remains to be seen how he performs in the new scheme just like Thornton. Griffin an all around DB has been switched to Corner and looks to compliment Harper very well. It looks like this team is moving on without Pac Man Jones. Safety is fairly good, Chris Hope is more of a runs stopper but lacks consistency, and Thompson is a ball hawk who shows a lot of range and playmaking ability. Look for Hope to play more in the box, while Thompson has more field to cover. This is a pretty solid secondary but did the pass defense get that much better? Pacman will be missed, Griffin must live up to his potential, and Harper must adjust well to the new scheme in order for this to happen.

Defense Overall C - This defense has some decent players and should be able to perform pretty well. They have a very good pair of OLBs, a solid D-Line, and a secondary with a lot of talent and a lot of potential. This defense should be able to keep them in ball games for the most part but the main question for this team is whether or not the offense can put up points.

Arrow Conclusion

The whole team as a whole is very young and needs a lot of guys to step up this year in order to succeed. This team has its fair share of veteran players who are leaders that are going to have to step up as well including Kevin Mawae, Eric Moulds, Albert Haynesworth, and Keith Bulluck. In the end, the defense is too young and inconsistent to stop opposing offenses on a regular basis and the offense lacks any true weapons. Vince Young is going to have to do a lot on his own and unless the RBs step up this offense is going nowhere. This team has some talent but not enough to go too far this year.

Arrow Predictions

LHEEZY 2-14
HIDM 4-12
Combined Record 3-13

You've just done one team and so far I'm liking your previews. I can't wait when you get to the Rams.

This is absolutely AMAZING. Wow...

One tiny tidbit though:

Keenan signed with AFC South rival Houston.

pretty good overall

2 things that were wrong

1.O-Line are you serious like you said we dont give up many sacks and we were 5th in the league in rushing last year, yet you give them no credit

2.the records are horrible, its almost funny, you had us winning 2 games i will do a sig bet with you that we will have to wear the entire offseason that we will win more than 4 games, accept or decline?

your records really are funny they are so wrong Laughing

Very nice post. However, my belief is that a lot of fans will be angry with you guys... you certainly had a challenge as your first prediction was about the Titans, you know, the team that manages to be better even with more losses than gains. Wink Just kidding, Titans fans.

Well, we both had different sections of this. I really liked the Titans offensive, I guess LHEEZY didn't, thats really the only thing the Titans have going for them on offense and the Titans o-line must keep their form if they have any chance of making it to the playoffs.

Vince Young does not have any weapons, and I have my doubts about Chris Brown staying healthy; but, if he steps up I can see this team having a 6-10 to 8-8 record, the young guys just need to step up and Chris Brown really needs to step up and help Vince Young. I have my doubts though.
