And I bet last year you were saying you had the best backup in football. I hope he gets the full sentence (although I wish he could get a lot more than 6 years...), bye bye Vick...but I have a feeling he wont even get a year. _________________

You have to also feel bad for the Falcons organization. They must feel like the dogs in Vick's fights. I bet the Falcons sign Culpepper _________________

| I hope they give ol' Joey a shot. He deserves one more in this league. He might be able to be decent starting for the Falcons. |

Schaub may not set the world on fire this year, because of the talent around him, but I would feel much, much better with him under center than Joey.
Seems to be a shortage of Falcons fans today. _________________

It's about time. Vick deserves this totally. I've been a fan of him, but good thing this happened. This may result in a few things:
1. Daunte Culpepper being a Falcon or...
2. HIDM's user name may turn out to be true.
3. With the first pick in the 2008 NFL Draft, the Atlanta Falcons select QB Brian Brohm of Louisville. _________________

But I feel sorry for Vick. The reason why???
I have witnessed and know people who are into dog fighting. And I really cant say any of them realize that it is a federal offense. Im not saying Vick didnt know. But the severity of the situation is what wasnt apparent to him. Kinda like smoking weed. Many people do it but, dont realize it can be a severe crime but still many people do it. |
Vick knew all about it..
Guys who take the time burying things.. Cutting up carpet and hiding it.. tend to know what they are doing all the way. Vick is a pathetic excuse for a human who should be banned from the NFL. Smoking weed is illegal but not even comparable to what Vick did. He bet on animals killing each other. He got a dog.. trained it or w.e then let fight another animal till it was either unable to continue with injuries or it damaged the other persons animal till it was dead or unable to continue. If anyone ever wants a definition of sick.. here it is. |
I'll piggy back on this comment and say that ignorance of the law does not forgive the crime. |
I'll piggy back on top of Merc and add in that I don't believe for one millisecond that he didn't know it was against the law and a federal offense. He gambled on the fact that he could either sneak it on the side or if he did get caught that being "MICHAEL VICK" would let him skate free.
The world at his feet and he acts like a moron. Unbelievable.
As for a suspension I fully expect him to be gone this entire year. Two felony counts by one of the NFL's poster children is something that Roger will not take lightly. _________________

by the way, i want to congratulate all you guys for having a discussion on this difficult and passionate subject with such aplomb and maturity.
we appreciate the lack of personal invective and insults, that's what we had planned for the NFL News Forum.
thanks again! _________________

I do feel bad for Falcons fans. They didn't ask for this. You expect that your franchise players know how to handle themselves off the field. Hell, you expect that all of the players for your favorite team know how to conduct themselves off the field, but it's especially damning when it's the face of your franchise, your favorite player, etc. Michael Vick has let so many people down.
But like many others, I'm glad to see the federal government bringing the hammer down on Vick here, because to see all of this go un-punished or at least not see it go to court, would be despicable.
As for the comparison of smoking pot to running a dog-fighting ring... there is absolutely no comparison. Smoking pot is a misdemeanor. It doesn't harm anyone else. Running a dog-fighting ring is a federal offense that can lead to years in prison. A more viable comparison might be between Vick and a major drug-traffiker, and I highly doubt anyone is going to say a drug-traffiker doesn't know what he's getting into with that stuff.
To feel sympathy for Vick knowing that he executed multiple murders of dogs, including a mass execution just 3 months ago where there was, committing the executions by, "hanging, drowning, and slamming at least one dog's body into the ground." This is the same month, April of 2007, that Vick met with Goodell on the matter, the same month that he insisted he never even visited the property.
Good riddance, Michael Vick. To feel sympathy for Vick himself is kind of ridiculous at this point. _________________ "The really important kind of freedom involves attention, and awareness, and discipline, and effort, and being able truly to care about other people and to sacrifice for them, over and over, in myriad petty little unsexy ways, every day.” |
