Most Players who have been grat for a long time, retire before they become a Back-up. I think he will split carries this year with Jones and use Washington as a 3rd down back, but by next year, he should definatly retire before he loses alot of credibility.

i just want him to come back as a coach......if he mentioned his coming back before the draft, he could have started, cause i think he's coming back.......

as much as it would be great to see martin come back, this is just the first step in ending his career with the jets

per profootballtalk.com

Much like the Colts' activation of defensive tackle Corey Simon, which happened on Thursday, it could be the first step toward officially ending Martin's career with the Jets.

but yeah i think he would be a great runningback coach and role model for the young guys like leon washington

i actually want him to be an assistant coach.......cause if he comes back, he might only split the carries..............

I honestly thought his knees were completely shot? I don't think there's anyway he can be effective anymore.

This step is probably a precursor to his retirement. They've already reworked his contract to cost 820,000 next year and he'll be a free agent in 2008. He's expected to announce his retirement and have a ceremony during halftime of their week 1 game.

I hope he stays retired. So Marshall Faulk, Jerome Bettis, and Curtis Martin can all go into the HOF together.

As much as it pains me to type this, I hope Curtis is done. Coming back now would just seem like he is over doing his career and would not add any thing onto his legacy. The only reason why I would want Martin to come back is the slight chance the Jets win the Super Bowl. Besides that, I think Martin has proved himself. Despite his burning passion for the game, Martin could risk serious injury by making another run. Also, with the amount of depth the Jets have at running back, I think Martin will be used as a mentor/bench rider.

That would be really cool, actually. Talked about an incredible HOF class.

He's already stated he has no interest in being a coach.

I hope Curtis is done. He's one of my favorite players of all time, but being out of football for a year and coming back at the age of 34 I'm not really sure how much left he can offer on the field. He and Wayne Chrebet exemplify the definition of a "Mangini player", it's a shame neither of them ever got to play for him.
