guy with a lot of potential might be the starter( or at least fight for the spot if he adapts quickly) next year if jp losman does not do well this year _________________

I think Losman will keep his starting position for quite a while. _________________

with all of the bills fans and raving about how good losman was this past year why did the bills spend a 3rd round pick on a QB? _________________

Good for a team to get another first day pick signed. |

They could also use a backup if Losman gets injured. They have no one behind him. They traded Holcomb. |

Exactly. Also, you pretty much need two capable quarterbacks because of the potential for injury. Let us not forget Frank Reich, who was a third round pick. Not only did he lead the Bills to the greatest comeback in NFL history, but he also led the Bills to other key victories in his career when Jim Kelly was injured.
Holcomb would be a good backup, but he was costing too much money and getting older. With Edwards, the Bills have the potential of trading him down the line (see Matt Schaub).
Then there is also the possibility that Losman does end up a bust. Although it is hard to forsee that happening after Losman finished his first full season starting with a completion percetage of 62.5% and a passer rating of 84.9. Also, this is the first offseason that he and the rest of the team won't have to learn a new offense. _________________
