John Clayton says it's "clear" that Steelers G Alan Faneca is angling to get the team to move him.
Clayton drops an interesting tidbit that Faneca actually showed up for a meeting before Pittsburgh minicamp, then left the next night. The Steelers probably won't want to pay him market value and he's hitting a contract year, so it's possible they could deal him.

Hope this article isn't true...

actually.... i kinda hope it is.

the cardinals are looking to trade down, apparently. makes for a very very interesting scenario.

it's pretty clear he doesnt want to play in pittsburgh anymore, and we have to pay ben and troy soon anyway.

he's a top flight player, and would be hard to lose... but he doesnt want to be here. no point in making him stay. at all.

Is it just more or has Faneca been a bit of a cancer or distraction if you will, I mean he wasn't exactly happy about Roethlisberger getting the start and he was fairly vocal about the hiring of Tomlin... Think

And lets not forget he can sit to week 10..Then he can decide to show up..And still be a UFA next year

Actually Faneca has alot of leverage.

I say just say no dont take that if he holds out let him trade up and pick a guard if you have to an if he cause you a problem stick it to him and send him to some junk team that isnt going to win

Unless the Steelers get the Cardinals 1st and 3rd round pick I don't want know part of this deal. A. Faneca is still the cream of the crop when it comes to OGs, even if his pass blocking is suspect.

I was hoping somehow we could get a deal done to keep him but I've lost respect for him. He waited until he got his $1m roster bonus until he started complaining about wanting a new deal. He's under contract for another year, play for what you signed and shut the hell up.

And now he's skipping mini-camps? Showing up, proving he's not away for any other reason, then leaving?

The problem with trading him is that he's only under contract for one more year so that's all the next team would get him for. The deal would have to include an extended contract from the other team that Faneca accepts.

Hopefully we get it done and get rid of his high cap, then we can draft an OG in the 2nd to replace him.

thats why shipping him to Arizona makes sense. He's more likely to re-up with them than any other team. For almost any other team he is a one year rental til he eventually ends up in zona.

The one year left on his contract means nothing really. McGahee had a year left on his contract when he was treade to the Ravens. I think if A. Faneca is traded he'll re-up with the next team.

We could have another Mike Merriweather on are hands with this Faneca situation. Faneca may not sit out the entire season, but he could be traded.
