precursors to how my mock was formed. I expect no immediate starters from this draft. I expect this draft to do what drafts do, add depth and future starters. I expect Simmons to win C and Mahan RG for the interim. I dont believe there are any pressing needs, as the poor play of '06 was a function of the Superbowl win. And the more I read of David Harris the more he's catching Patrick Willis.

1. David Harris - ILB.
2. Quentin Moses DE/OLB
3. Ryan Harris OT ND
4a. Kenny Scott CB GT
4b. Turk McBride DT TENN
5a. Ryan Moore WR MIA
5b. Brandon Jackson RB NEB
6. Dan Santucci OG ND
7. Tim Calhoun TE Eastern Washington

How bad is it?

As an 8-8 team we damn well better get a starter.

Don't give me this "15 months removed from the Super Bowl" crap.

Living in the past gets you losses in the future.

We're an 8-8 team and we need to realize that. The sooner we do and try to change it, the better we are.

That being said...

You drafted Harris a round too early.

Same with Moses.

I really don't know much about any of the other players so I won't comment.

But I'd take Jacoby Jones over Moore. Jackie Battle over Jackson. Johnathan Wade over Kenny Scott.

Just my opinion.

What that means is we already have a solid team we just need one of two additions(OLB, and on the O-Line).

And David Harris at #15...For me no thanks that's a bit to early.

No. We HAD a solid team when we won the super bowl. 2 seasons ago.

Players age. Skills diminish. Some players may have had fluke years.

You're only as good as your last year.

So we don't need to take injuries and other complications into account?

The effect of injuries can only be guessed at.

We suffered injuries during our 1995 Super Bowl run (Rod Woodson).

Injuries are another term for excuse. Solid team means not only your starters, but depth as well.

And quite frankly, our starters are a bit lacking. I can name at least half a dozen starters/serious contributers who are extremely upgradeable at this point in time.

Kreider
Farrior
Foote
Haggans
Simmons
Wilson
Washington

Thats 7.

And other players like James Harrison are on the bubble.

We need to get a starter to replace one of those guys. Preferably 2 or 3 of them.

Agreed. Simmons needs to be replaced by either Kemo or a OG via the Draft and same with Wilson...I mean he just sucks!

And James Farrior and Larry Foote could start on most teams IMO.

Foote not so much.

Farrior is good for another year or 2.

Kreider's best days are long passed.

Washington is decent, but upgradeable. Good production, but key drops.

Kreider has been the lead blocker for Willie Parker and FWP has put up 2882 in 3 years.

And Washington is young and will improve.

The Steelers have relied on Kreider less and less with Willie P. I don't have the stats.

Kreider's role will only decrease with Arians as the OC.

He is upgradeable.

the logic, or illogic, behind these picks are I believe LB's are the biggest need but there arent any that can break the '07 starting lineup. Harris could step in immediately in '08 at ILB or MLB, whatever the scheme. There isnt enough value to take an OLB/DE in round one, as I dont believe Anderson will fall to 15.

Harris - tough, could be best ILB in draft, bit of a reach
Moses - OLB needs addressed in round 2. He can rush the passer standing up or with a hand on the ground
Harris - 4 yr starter at LT, unpolished, has time to learn
Scott - Fast, great ball skills, technique needs refined
McBride - From the reports I've read he has the ability to play under/5 technique
Moore - potential to be a big time possession WR
Jackson - Chris Perry mold, 3rd down back , good hands
Santucci - athletic OG, can get to 2nd level
Calhoun - dont know much about him but I read he can block so he's ok in my book and TE needs to be addressed at some point.

I wanted to address WR earlier but I couldnt justify it. I think Moses has alot of potential at the next level as a pass rusher. He saw alot double teams and chips last year so his stock dropped. Harris may be about 10 picks too early but he fills a "defined need position" with sacrificing a little value. I wanted to see how a 7 round mock would look with him.

I like the draft. Harris is an awesome ILB, and people are not giving him enough credit.

When is it time to give up on draft OL? Because how i see it is, some fans have already given up on Coke, Washington, Simmons, Starks, Kiesel and McFadden. But are so excited about the chances of one of these Colon, Kemoeatu, Mahan and Essex. When should there time come to be evaluated. Now I know that there is never enough OL on a team, but when your line has been inconsitent as the Steelers. With know backups beating or replacing starters, then aren't they just as bad as the starters? I just don't want to waste more picks on backup OL, if we already have backup OL. IMHO.

Spush your draft is alright, but it's not real. Wink
