Guys,
Hot off the presses....he's gonna be our man. Or, so says Sporting News today.
I don't know much about him, so he must have impressed at the combines.
Can anyone post a link with some meaningful info, or at least tell me about this dude? |

whats the big to do about sporting news. why do you believe they are the official word? links to this info please..........
here's the nfl link for ware http://www.nfl.com/draft/profiles/2005/ware_demarcus
he looks alright on paper. i'm not really convinced thats what we need but i can see it putting a lot more pressure on QB's and possibly getting some one on ones for Hunt and Grady. which would probably improve Hunts play. _________________

Haus, I say this without criticizing you, but if Demarcus Ware is our number 1 pick, I immediately go home and slit my wrists! He is very talented, don't misunderstand me, and he could be a star in this league, but he's too darn small for Bates' scheme.
The knock on Bates is that while his defenses are exceptional against the pass, they struggle against the run. To counter this Green Bay needs a big Defensive End who can play both the pass and the run. Someone in the mold of Vonnie Holliday. The only two Defensive Ends out there who can do this are Marcus Spears and Shaun Cody. That is why one of the three or Channing Crowder will be our Number 1 pick. |

hey haus, where does thomas davis go in this mock? in the second round? that sounds kind of strange/ri-guldarn-diculous to me. seriously though where do they have him going. i saw Brodney Poole going to the ATL but i didn't see Davis anywhere. _________________

Men,
I'm not sure what's gonna happen. It's looking more and more like we won't draft a safety in the first round because of the additions of Freeman and Little. And, we supposedly are adding Chris Draft, LB from Atlanta.
All this spells a defensive lineman, in my terribly humble opinion.
I agree Ware is too small for end. However, he's fast as greased lightning and could we afford not to pick this guy up? Lock him up and let his play determine what position he's best suited towards.
I would be more satisfied picking Ware than Crowder. Crowder's way overrated and I can't figure out why so many people think we should draft him???
What say ya'll??? |

| Haus, I agree with your assessment that we probably won't address LB or DB in the first round. All signs seem to point to a Defensive Lineman. That having been said, I don't think it'll be Ware, again, dude's way too small. You already have one undersized DE in KGB, why on earth would you want an even smaller one? Now, if we are going to use him primarily as a pass rushing specialist, okay, but a #1 pick is a high cost for a pass rushing specialist. Again, Shaun Cody or Marcus Spears, those are the boys. |

isn't he pretty much a tweener though. Bates could probably turn him into a OLB or DE really....... _________________

Damn, a 5 foot 11 inch DE? We may as well draft Ware...he he.
Ya know, the way I see it is that Green Bay might have a monster draft. Think about it.....I can't name the last year when we actually had a great draft?!?! Why not this year??? Hell, we have 3 picks in the top 58..that ain't shabby. |

Ya but we need a Middle Linebacker. Ware will only be an OLB. There is no doubt about it, he'll probably be very good, I just don't know how good he'll be in Green Bay's system.
The only way I could see it working out is if we have a Defensive End by committee. We move Cletidus, we retain Kampman, and we bring in Ware for passing situations. But there are a lot of variables taht make that not likely.
Again, Shaun Cody is my boy. |

I don't like Cody. He was good in college, but he's too weak to play d-tackle in the NFL. He also isn't fast enough to play rush end. He's just kind of there. _________________

S. Cody would be a fabulous 3 tech in the pros. Not weak, but incredibly strong and has great hand placement and ability in a 1 gap team. Also give match up problems with RT, TE in running situations. I would be very happy with him.
More happy with Davis however. |

| If Davis is there, the Packers take him. Ware would be a good OLB that you could blitz next to Kampman. Not a bad idea either. |

Bates likes smaller ends and big DTs, as he had in Miami when he had Taylor/Bowens/Gardner?/Ogunleye (the year the starting DEs had like 30 sacks between them nearly...)
Wouldn't surprise me if they drafted him, or another smallish end. |
