I'm about to start a poll style threat on this board, where we determine who would win certain games if it was a 17-team tournament.
West Regional (@ Arizona State)
#1 (#1 overall) - Southern California Trojans
vs.
#4 (#16 or #17 overall) - Florida State Seminoles/Wisconsin Badgers
#2 (#8 overall) - Virginia Tech Hokies
vs.
#3 (#12 overall) - Iowa Hawkeyes
-------------------------
North Regional (@ Notre Dame)
#1 (#4 overall)- Texas Longhorns
vs.
#4 (#13 overall)- Michigan Wolverines
#2 (#5 overall) - California Golden Bears
vs.
#3 (#9 overall) - Boise State Broncos
------------------------------------------
South Regional (@ Oklahoma State)
#1 (#2 overall)- Oklahoma Sooners
vs.
#4 (#15 overall) - Tennessee Volunteers
#2 (#7 overall) - Georgia Bulldogs
vs.
#3 (#11 overall)- Louisiana State Tigers
-------------------------
East Regional (@ Florida)
#1 (#3 overall) - Auburn Tigers
vs.
#4 (#14 overall)- Miami (FL) Hurricanes
#2 (#6 overall) - Utah Utes
vs.
#3 (#10 overall) - Louisville Cardinals _________________

I was using the final BCS rankings before Bowl Week last season. That's how I got my field of 16/17. Reason there's a Play-In game is because Florida State and Wisconsin were seperated by .0027 I believe. _________________

USC was the best team in the land but Auburn deserved the chance to have it settled on the field.
YES a playoff is needed. Now if only the BCS would stop acting as if they are looking out for "student athletes" and realize that all the money they are worried about will still be there.
Andrew- How was Iowa not even in your top 16? |

Drew Tate passes for 3 TD's and the Hawkeyes advance
-------------------------
North Regional (@ Notre Dame)
#1 (#4 overall)- Texas Longhorns
vs.
#4 (#13 overall)- Michigan Wolverines
This one goes the same way the Rose Bowl went. i don't remember the score but Vince Young saves the day.
#2 (#5 overall) - California Golden Bears 24
vs.
#3 (#9 overall) - Boise State Broncos 17
Cal squeezes through with a TD pass by Rodgers in the last minute.
------------------------------------------
South Regional (@ Oklahoma State)
#1 (#2 overall)- Oklahoma Sooners 38
vs.
#4 (#15 overall) - Tennessee Volunteers 45
Offense is the show here, neither defense can stop anything but in the end Rick Clausen leads a last minute drive that gives Tennesse the upset of the 1st round.
#2 (#7 overall) - Georgia Bulldogs 13
vs.
#3 (#11 overall)- Louisiana State Tigers 10
Defense rules this one, a last second FG wins this one.
-------------------------
East Regional (@ Florida)
#1 (#3 overall) - Auburn Tigers 28
vs.
#4 (#14 overall)- Miami (FL) Hurricanes 3
Jason Campbell throws 2 TD's, and Ronnie Brown and Caddy each run for one TD
#2 (#6 overall) - Utah Utes 48
vs.
#3 (#10 overall) - Louisville Cardina 45
Alex Smith saves the day by throwing for 4 touchdowns and running for 2 more to stop the explosive Cardinals.
QUARTER FINALS
USC 28
Iowa 20
Matt Leinart keeps the Trojans season going with 3 TD passes, and Drew Tate's Haily Mary heave finds an Iowa reciever in the endzone, only to watch him drop the pass.
Texas 13
Cal 17
The Cal defense finds a way to shut down Vince Young, and Cedric Benson fumbles inside the 5 yard line, allowing the Bears to advance to the Final Four
Georgia 23
Tennesee 26
This one has a SEC flair to it out in Stillwater. Rick Clausen pulls it out again, with a game winning FG ending Mark Richt and the Bulldog's disappointing season
Auburn 20
Utah 27 OT
the Swamp s the scene for a monumental and game changing upset, as the non BCS Utes shock Auburn in OT when Alex Smith finds Steve Savoy for a 37 yard TD pass, and denying the Tigers an SEC showdown at the Sugar Bowl
FINAL FOUR
Fiesta Bowl
USC 31
Cal 17
The Trojan offense is in full throttle, as Leinart outduels Rodgers to prove he is the better QB
Sugar Bowl
Tennesee 21
Utah 17
Rick Clausen goes down in injury in the first quarter and Erik Ainge makes a shock comeback, throwing 2 second half TD's to lift the Vols into the championship game.
3rd place game
Rose Bowl
the 3rd place game was crucial to the agreement of a playoff, as all 4 BCS stadiums wanted games every year, so the Rose Bowl gets 3rd place game this year.
Utah 37
Cal 21
Utah scores a win for all mid majors, by finishing 3rd in the nation overall. Alex Smith is spectacular with 2 TD passes, but its an Aaron Rodgers INT returned for a TD that sends Utah to the win, as Cal blows a 21-6 lead in the 2nd half.
CHAMPIONSHIP GAME
Orange Bowl
USC 48
Tennessee 16
USC takes it home by building a 21-0 first quarter lead behind 2 Matt Leinart TD throws and a Reggie Bush punt return TD.
FINAL FOUR MVP: Matt Leinart
TOURNAMENT MVP: Alex Smith _________________ "The really important kind of freedom involves attention, and awareness, and discipline, and effort, and being able truly to care about other people and to sacrifice for them, over and over, in myriad petty little unsexy ways, every day.” |
