I have no idea what their new colors and uniorms would look alike let alone their new nick name. Anybody have any ideas. My only idea is to honor their former o-line the Hogs, but I don't think anybody would like that name. _________________ POINT PROVEN!!!! |

| If they have to change thier name then maybe the Warrior's. Danny boy already has the rights for that because he was going to call his arena football team that. They could keep the uni's for a couple of years and change them but keep the team colors. |

| Warriors doesn't sound bad, but I hope with all my soul that it doesn't happen. It is so preposterous to begin with, the name didn't even begin with relation to indians. Since the team was originally in Boston, it actually refers to redskin baked beans. Once the team moved to Washington, the meaning changed. Of course, the logo is probably somewhat offensive, but I really demand a meeting with a group of indians who are consciously bothered every time they hear the team name. I would first smack them a few times, then tell them to let it go. |

| We could threaten to change it to the Washington Drunken Casino Workers, keep the same logos, and let the Indians make the choice. |

baked beans? i'm sorry I have'nt heard that one before. The team started in boston playing on Braves field with the Boston Braves baseball team. The owner changed the name of the football team to the Redskins to keep it less confusing then The Redskins moved to D.C. and the Braves baseball team eventually moved to Atlanta, at least that is what I was told. |

the name is actually a rich part of our U.S. history and i dont know why they want to change the name. Its not even directed towards native americans. The name redskins was named after the people who dressed up like indians and participated in the boston tea party. Therefore boston redskins. They then moved the team 4 years later somewhere in like the 30s to DC so it wouldnt confuse ppl whith their baseball team. Native americans are fading fast and i think its cool that we can have a team name that remembers our history and the impact that native americans had back then. Plus my friend is native american and he doesnt care at all, he likes hte name. It would be a shame if they changed it. _________________ Retweet of the day (after reggie bush's muffed punt) Dear Reggie Bush; The ball is smaller than Kim Kardashians a@@. Haha yeah you are right, that's just what I always throw out to people when they start talking about how insensitive the name is. It usually quiets the argument for some time.
I have heard differing stories on the origin of the name, actually. What is certain is that they were originally the Boston Braves, but they were forced to change since the baseball team held the rights to that name. The stories diverge at that point. Some say that George Preston Marshall, the owner at the time, was heavily racist, and used the name as a slur. However, the more widely accepted story is that Marshall changed the name to honor head coach "Lone Star" Dietz, who was a Native American. The name change occurred with the input of Dietz and four other Native Americans who played on the team at that time. If the second story is accurate, which I tend to think it is, it kind of takes the starch out of arguments that the name was created with prejudice toward Indians. |

I didn't know there was a new push to change their name...hate all these PC name changes
I hated that the Bullets had to change their name, loved 'Bullets' absolutely loathe 'Wizards'
I like the idea of being able to keep the retro spear unis and helmets...that would be the best thing for them to do.
