Hopefully we can have civil discussion in here, and hopefully no one, myself included, turns this into a thread that needs to be locked.

Last night, for the third time in less than two years, another friend of mine was in a drunk driving accident. This is the second time of which my friend lost their life in the accident. Thank you in advanced for any condolences, I know many of you will feel the need to express them. I appreciate any of you that say or even just think of those condolences.

I implore you all to never drink and drive, and never get into a car with a driver who is drunk. Call a cab, call a friend or a relative who is sober, take turns with your friends being a designated driver, whatever it takes to keep everybody safe. The $50 for a cab ride, or the lack of fun a couple nights a month as the DD is nothing compared to the pain that your loved ones will feel if they lose you, or what it'll feel like if you're sitting behind bars for criminally negligent homicide. It's really not worth it guys.

About 32% of all fatal traffic accidents are caused by alcohol. That is nearly 12,000 deaths a year that can be avoided if people would just call a cab. Think about it. How would your family feel if they lost you? How would you feel if you lost a close friend?

I apologize if I came across preachy, I hope you all forgive me if that was the case.

So, I guess I'm asking that we all make a FF pact to not drink and drive, not let our friends drink and drive, and instead make sure we always have a sober driver to get us home safe so we can always enjoy the next party. Are you in?

Luckily, in my small town if you call the cops, even when we were underage (though that has changed now) they will give you a ride no questions asked. at the same time we do not have cab services except for St. Pats day were the population like doubles it's crazy.

Also sorry for your loss, i have had similar incidents.

Sorry for your loss iPwn and I completely agree with you. Even if you only have a beer or a glass of wine, call up a buddy and ask them for a ride. Don't drink and drive.

You should get a DUI for blowing a .4. That's five times the legal limit.

If you press #3 for five seconds of my cellphone it will call a trustful taxi driver I know. I've done a lot of dumb things on my life, but hopefully I'll never drink and drive.

Sorry for your loss, btw.

I'm sorry for your loss and not to pass along blame because we all need to have self control when in a situation like this but I think the time has come and gone when the government should have mandated breathalizers in all automobiles by now.I don't care what anyone says about how much it costs or the thing malfunctions or anything like that because whats the price tag for a human life? Bottom line is driving is a privilage and the government is well within theyre right to mandate this on all future models and this would be one way to put a serious dent in the number of fatalities.Unfortunately though the whole dui problem has become an industry by itself and a means of revenue for the county that levies the fines and classes and other punishments therefore I don't think this solutuion will ever come to realization any time soon.

I'm sorry for your loss bro. I don't drink and whenever we go anywhere where my friends drink, I always drive for them.

Well I'm sorry but these things really anger me, not at the individual but the whole beaurocracy that is suppossed to help our citizens protect themselves from tragedies like this.No doubt personal responsibility is first but additional help from our own government is failing in this area and the reason behind that sadly to say is probably because there will be revenue lost once the problem is nearly eliminated.

Sorry about your loss, man. May your friend rest in peace. My aunt is an alcoholic and she drives drunk. One time, my aunt was meeting me, my parents, my grandfather, and my brother at a restaurant. She was nearly an hour late. She was completely drunk at dinner. She drank even more alcohol at dinner. She was so loud, people sitting around us started looking at us. It was so bad, my father had to apologize about her to our waitress. After we left, she forgot where she parked. Now that's pretty bad. Somehow, she made it to my grandfather's house and back to her home in one piece. I agree with iPwn in saying that if you have the choice to take a cab, have a designated driver, or just call a friend to pick you up.

We were talking about Defensive Driving and I think we figured you would be looking at $5000 for all the court fees and fines for the first time. Add in that the DUI goes on your record, who wants to hire someone with a DUI on their record. You may lose your job due to being in jail. Which could lead to loss of car, house etc.

It's an easy $50, or call a close friend, they'll understand.

If any of my friends ever called me with that request, I'd be more than happy to help them out. Heck, I'd even pick someone up who is just an "acquaintance"
