i know its VERY unlikely but how surprised would you be if the NFL put an expansion team in LA...aye 33 teams you talked about how messed up the divisions would be if an eastern team moved to LA now youd have a division with 5 teams and there would be tons of complaining about how unfair that is, not to mention that LA expasnion team would probably just be like another Browns/Lions/Rams/Raiders in the league at least for the first few years. But man how shocked would you be? heck that would be dumb water down the talent of the league some more. I really hope the NFL is not considering expansion. And as far as a name for the team I think they should stay out of what i call "XFL names." like X-plosion or the force or team rampage stuff like that keep it simple the NFL has Vikings and Rams and Cardinals and Lions, and Bears and Patriots stuff like that nothing crazy.

A mascot for an NFL team could be any number of sources. I don't think an expansion team is likely at all. Mostly because I fully believe that at least one owner will likely see the dollar-signs in moving to LA and a new state of the art stadium far before a majority of the owners ever vote to approve league expansion by one (or more teams), since their primary focus right now is on the CBA and bargaining with the players union.

Traditionally, looking at the last few generations' worth of expansion teams or "league approved team names" (I believe the league does have to sign off on what the team's mascot/name actually is, since they still carry the NFL License in most associated uses of the logo), have been drawn from three groups: Predatory Animals, Birds, Type of Warriors, or Persons of Historical Significance to the Region (i.e. 49ers, Cowboys, Packers, Texans, and to a lesser degree Chiefs)... and as opposed to other sports, the NFL has actually managed to very rarely copycat mascots used by other sports (very few exceptions are the Giants, in which case both teams originated in NY at any rate, and Cardinals which similarly both originated in St. Louis).

Some ideas that I could see:

Los Angeles Wolfpack (or Wolves)

Los Angeles Knights (let's face it, we have two varieties of Pirate, Vikings, Titans, Redskins/Chiefs, Patriots, Cowboys, and so forth; the LA Warriors is a possibility too, but with Golden State having the NBA team of similar name in the same state, I'd say not likely)

Los Angeles Aztecs (definite possibility, given the Latino origins of the city; sort of in a similar capacity to the Packers in Green Bay or the Cowboys in Dallas)... same could be said as already mentioned on here for the LA Toros.

As a Texans fan, I'd love the Rams to replace Indy in the south. That would be amazing.

Is there any chance that the State gov will not be so eager to assist if California is not gaining a team, but just relocating one from SD or Oakland?

The state government has never assisted in this process except for waiving environmental concerns over the stadium. They did this without preconditions for moving a team there from another state, so I doubt they'd suddenly pull an about-face if that were the case.

Not going to happen, purely because of scheduling. The current schedule works and there's no need to mess with it.

That's funny. I used to make the LA Aztecs on Madden too. We think a lot alike.

And I used to make a Portland Wolfpack.

Not to sound too corporate, but it could be a marketing dream.

That's a great name. Should seriously be considered.

Honestly I see the Jags moving before the completion of the stadium and rent out the coliseum for a year or two, they can't keep bringing in 40000 in attendance and survive in the league for long, they need to move asap in order to save the franchise

San Diego State already has the Aztec name. Doubt they would name the team that, with a college inside the state with the same mascot.

A Jaguar is a god to the Aztecs, if i know enough on my history. I could see LA keeping the name. Do they even have Jaguars in Florida? Dont see why it would be so hard to just keep the mascot in Los Angeles.

All they would have to do is re-hash the identity to have a more aztec feel. kinda like this :

I like the idea. But there's already a silver and black team in the state. You'd never hear the end of it from the raider fans. I mean, I have already seen one Raider fan on this site say that every team wearing any kind of black is biting on the raiders colors.

thats just al davis posing as a forum poster.
