If you were Rick Smith, would you resign Kevin Walter?
I say no, he has underperformed so far this year and Dunta, Meco, Pitts, and OD are all more important than Walter IMO.
I could see DA stepping in as the starter opposite of Dre and Jacoby becoming the new slot WR. _________________

Kevin Walter has served his purpose. Unless he comes at a bargain basement price, I just can't see us resigning him to a long term deal.
I believe we have a plug & play style offense that can turn an average receiver into a good one. _________________

This down year statistically for KW could ultimately be very beneficial for us. It could save us a bunch of money in resigning him. I still think we need to resign him because he is really important to the offense, a great #2 WR. I just don't trust Jacoby to take over that position. _________________

I think we can keep Walter for a reasonable price but he may try to ask for a large contract, in which case I would let him walk. I like Walter in this offense as the #2 WR because he is big, he has reliable hands and he has good chemistry with Schaub. I don't think he is a vital part to our offense but we looked pretty awful without him against the Jets in week 1. _________________

Sadly, the best thing that could have happened to him was OD getting hurt (and Casey not being able to step in immediately). Walter becomes the #2 option again in our potent passing attack and should rack up some nice numbers by the end of the year. It is also possible that the OD injury helps us keep Walter as OD ain't getting paid next year as he will not be fully recovered until mid-season at best and a long-term deal is out of the question until he can prove he's the same player. Dunta couldn't get one a full year and a half after his injury and he plays a much more premium position. Fact is we need Walter next year a whole lot more than we did previously as there are no guarantees that OD is the same when he returns.
I don't see DA as a starter as I think he's best in the role he's in or some more regular slot duty. Walter at least has the threat of beating someone deep, DA is possession guy all the way. Jacoby is the opposite of a slot receiver which puts a premium on timing and route running as all he does is run sloppy corner, fly, and post patterns and catches teams napping while hyperfocusing on AJ, OD, and Walter. I'll grant you that WR remains our deepest position and Walter is more replaceable than others, but we'll see how that plays out in the second half. If I were a betting man, I see him stepping up to have a huge game this week in our time of need. _________________

This was one of the things I was thinking bout today. Should we resign him? He hasn't had the season we all expected from him. He is only averaging 45 receiving yards per game this season. Even if we do have Andre, that is particularly bad for a number 2 receiver. Jacoby Jones actually have more receiving touchdowns than Walter. _________________

Hes had such a down year because OD was showing up so well. Now that hes hurt, we have to decide. Walter, or OD? OD is a very good TE, and always creates a mismatch with the coverage. KW is a WR, that's it. He will get open many times in a game, but OD was open so much more that he became the number two option.
KW is going to get the stats that OD would have. The best fantasy thing this season is to add KW ASAP. Hes going to get at least 15 points a week.
After this season, we have to decide. And dont lie, every single one of yall who have said they think OD will sign a one year contract are just getting that from Justice's article. _________________

I personally think we should make KW a standing offer that is consistent with what a #2 WR in this league makes. If he doesn't want it, he's more than welcome to test the open market in search of that #1 WR money.
If some team gives it to him? Thank you for your time and services KW, good luck in your future endeavors...and when that new team realizes you're not the #1 WR they were looking for and they subsiquently cut you, you'll always have a home here...at a seriously discounted rate.
KW is good, but if he is looking for some massive payday, let him walk. _________________

Struggling? Last time I checked the last 5 weeks we have one of the best defenses in football. _________________
