NEW ORLEANS -- The New Orleans Saints have signed free agent linebacker Anthony Waters.
NFC South blog

ESPN.com's Pat Yasinskas writes about all things NFC South in his division blog.

Blog network: NFL Nation

Waters, who is entering his third season, spent two years in San Diego after being selected by the Chargers in the third round of the 2007 draft.

Saints general manager Mickey Loomis did not disclose terms of the agreement.

The 6-foot-3, 238-pound linebacker played in seven regular-season games, making three tackles on defense and three stops and a fumble recovery on special teams. He also played in one postseason game, recording a tackle.

Is he the extremely talented guy that tore his knee before or during the season at Clemson and has never been the same?

Anthony Waters is a pretty good player coming out of Clemson, taken in round 3 back in 07'. He's got the size and strength to be an ideal inside linebaker in a 3-4, which was a contributing factor in pundits calling the pick a good one when the Chargers made it; but he just hasn't come along and hes shed some pounds unnecessarily.

I think he could add some good young depth for Nollins' as wll as maybe get a few reps as a SLB.
