Welcome to Releasing Players
Timeline: Monday February 2nd, 2009: 8am-indefinitely

During this period if any teams are over the 123 Million dollar cap you will need to release players to get under the cap. All teams are allowed to release players starting Monday at 8am and can do so throughout the remainder of FFMD. You are never allowed to exceed the 123 million dollar cap limit beyond Monday, or the 53 man roster. Capologists please keep an updated spreadsheet of your roster and cap figures so you do not exceed these limitations.

The cap penalty to release a player will be their listed signing bonus and you will save the salary portion of their cap hit.

*** For Example***
(player name and cap hit are just for examples purposes and are not real figures)
The Pittsburgh Steelers release James Farrior (1 Million salary, 1 Million signing bonus for a total cap hit of 2 million) for a cap penalty of $1 Million Dollars.

If you trade a player there will be a cap penalty as well. However the cap penalty for trading a player is not the full signing bonus. For trading a player the cap penalty will be 50% of the signing bonus. In the above example if the Steelers traded James Farrior at the contract numbers listed the cap penalty would be $500,000 for trading him. That is 50% of his 1M signing bonus. You still save the base salary in all situations when trading or releasing a player.

If you release a player you just traded for the cap penalty is the total contract amount, both base salary and signing bonus. We do not want teams to trade for players and release them therefore there is a full cap penalty equal to the total cap hit.

How do you release a player?
The NY Jets release Brett Farve with a cap penalty of 2,000,000 dollars.
Or if no cap penalty:
The NY Jets release Brett Farve with no cap penalty.

***There will be 50% of the signing bonus cap penalty for trading a player.

If you trade a player his total cap hit will be accelerated to the new team therefore meaning if that team wants to release the player they just acquired via trade, you may do so but his total cap hit will be your penalty, not just the signing bonus portion. The team that traded the player still have to account for 50% of the signing bonus as a penalty against the cap for trading a player. This is a used as a transaction fee for trading a player. The team who trades the player is not paying half of the signing bonus they are simply taking a cap penalty for trading them. The total cap hit is the penalty for trading for a player and then releasing them.

Only GM's and AGM's will be allowed to post here releasing a player. Please do not post any discussion or questions relating to this section of FFMD here. You are allowed to PM either the Gnat, EliteTexan80 or myself with any questions during FFMD.
