There is no way we could francise Smoots. He is not worth 8 million dollars for one year! If we do, he still will leave the following year unless we francise him again the next year. We are going to have to let him go. I think he's a good player, but he is not a great player and not worth breaking the bank. |

Thank God we have Shawn Springs or else I would be upset. Fortunately Springs is the better CB but Smoot is still great. |

Its a smart move, we can't afford to pay the franchise rate (8.8mill) if we tag him no one trades for him and between the draft and free agency there is a lot of attainable talent out there this year.
Best thing we can do at this point is leave our last offer on the table, ask to have the opportunity to match a feasible offer and let him test the market. Hopefully with all of the talent out there this year, he wont find what he is looking for and comes back to our last offer.
Nothing else we can do at this point.
Now, what is up with Pierce?? |

OK guys, im a Cowboy fan...
That being said...I would love to get Smoot down here...however, some fellow Cowboy fans have said 1. He's gonna cost too much, and 2nd. He hates the Cowboys.
Now maybe it's just me, but, if the price is right, I dont see a player basing his money on team rivalries. and why not play for the team...that will let you play against a team that wouldnt resign you...
I think Smoot is a solid CB. |

WHy don't we use the transition tag? Anywho if we don't make a "THIS IS OUR FINAL OFFER" ultimatum with him he may give us a chance to match any offer he receives. I think he'll find that there aren't any other 10 mill signing bonuses waiting for him out there!

I see Smoot as a very possible solution to one of our biggest needs.
If the price is right I'd love to see Smoot with a star on his helmet. |

I don't think that the Cowboys could pay him a high enough price that the Skins wouldn't match. I think they'd consider that he'd be going to a division rival and pay a little more than if it was another team. |
