NFL Snooze News thread

NFL Snooze News: will be about anything NFL related that isn't directly Viking or NFC North related. however, a thread about a particular player we may have current interest in, such as Jared Allen or Asante Samuel, is still acceptable to stand on its own.

i'll ask members to show a lot of patience with each other until/if this becomes routine, particularly with new guys.

should these two new topics drop off the page, then it will be very difficult for members to recognize they should be using them, but we'll give it a try.

Al Davis has never made any sense to me. A new coach bringing in a new system is obviously going to take time to adjust and get his personel in, but rotating coaches in and out like he does, he is going to end up screwing the team up for a longer period of time then just sitting through a losing season or two and letting a coach put his system in place.

Agreed on Davis. As much as I'm arguing with Enrage on his thread about continuity, I can't see any way a team can be good if they have new coaches every year or two. It isn't just about that, but it is surely partly about that.

As for London, it is a good marketing move for the NFL. I heard PA state on the radio that he's heard the trip isn't much fun for anyone, but hey, it is a job after all and that is a business trip.

In other NFL news, what is going on in DC?

Another situation where the owner has too much time on his hands and too little clue. When a team makes the playoffs and the coach leaves, promote from within in order to keep the team from changing as much. But Snyder is going to want to make his mark on the team again, like signing old free agents to huge contracts isn't enough.

talk about a guy who was never put in front of a man who could mentor him:

no father or grandfather
UCF coaches (hey, maybe they're top notch, but i doubt it...)
Denny Green (remind me again of all the qb's he's developed...)
Mike Tice (coddled him...)
fired his agent and represents himself now
Mike Saban (in and out in a year...)
Oakland's Kiffin (not exactly a rock of a presence...)

now begging to Parcells. who has always had a record of using bright, decisive qb's.

what others have said about Daunte, that i agree with, is that he is not overly bright, nor has made good decisions for his career.

what i am saying, is that he has also had the misfortune of never having a male authority figure in front of him that he could really learn much from or use as a role model to better himself.

not that that excuses his behavior and decisions, but if he wasn't very, very wealthy, we'd be watching a real tragedy here.
