What we learned
The 55-yard, touchdown-ending gallop by Chargers running back LaDainian Tomlinson, doubtlessly motivated coach Mike Martz to move Adam Archuleta back to strong safety. Coach Martz noted on STLtoday.com, "When it's all said and done, Adam's probably better down inside than back – particularly in our nickel package. He's such an instinctive guy and quick read guy in the running game. We miss him being up there." Archuleta is better served being at the point of attack, where he can pummel running backs rather than covering speedy wide receivers.
Rising Players Since Archuleta is returning to his original position as the team's strong safety, converted cornerback Michael Hawthorn is at the top of the mix to start at free safety for the Rams. Hawthorn is 6-3 and 204 pounds with speed. |
