Quote:
Slowed by a leg injury in the rookie minicamp, fifth-round draft pick Clifton Ryan has moved ahead of seventh-rounder Keith Jackson in the battle to be the No. 2 nose tackle behind Carriker. Although Carriker has more upside and is a better athlete, Ryan right now is the best pure nose tackle among the trio of rookies, plus he has been a high-effort player in the spring.

Its by Jim Thomas

So, could Cifton Ryan be the first string NT when its all said and done?

Yeah I read that also... and honestly I doubt it, but who knows.

Our draft sucked... :\

Pickett > Lewis > Kennedy > Carriker

None were all that great, Pickett was alright I guess. If we draft a DT in the first round again in the near future I will be very angry.

Get over it man, Carriker is our starter and you should probably start warming up to him now because he will be there to stay for a long time.

Where did titan say anything bad about Carriker? He just brought up an article that said Ryan was outplaying him...

Where does it say he is outplaying Carriker....it says he is battling for the #2 spot behind Carriker and that right now Ryan is more of the pure NT (which is true b/c Carriker is learning the position) it doesn't say anything about him outplaying Carriker

Eventually, Carriker will warm up to the position and get the job down better. Clifton Ryan has played NT before so he he knows all the tricks and so on. Carriker will get better.

Whats all the argument and hating for. I am glad that we have a 5th rounder that is showing that he can be a really good nose tackle. I think Adam Carriker will be a force to be reckon with and now that we have Clifton Ryan showing great promise, then you add Claude Wroten showing signs that he will do wonders this upcoming season, all it says is that we have something great at the defensive tackle position and that hasnt been said in years. I am happy, the more competition the better. I cant wait to see both those guys shut down the running game of the opposing teams, and I dont really care who starts as long as that guy can help get the job done.

I'm looking forward to our D-Line rotation this year and getting more excited about them each day. They have the potential to dominate with all of their youth and determination/talent/potential. On the other hand this could also backfire and we can be worse off next offseason than this one due to lack of experience/technique. IMO though I think we will show great signs of improvement in this area and will be able to hold up just enough to get us in the playoffs.

I think Keith Jackson will be the best NT this year. He has played the position throughout his college career. He knows how to beat a center and how to live with no stats. Carriker has never played there and Ryan has just had snaps there. Maybe Ryan looks better in shorts, maybe he picks up the Rams schemes quicker but Jackson is a better player.

What happens if Jackson beat out Carriker for NT? Does Carriker go to the other tackle position ahead of Wroten and Glover? Does he go back to DE?
