The #Ravens are signing veteran WR Griff Whalen, who visited and took a physical today, source said.

With Campanaro down, Whalen will give Ravens another option in slot and at returner.

I don't get the feeling that the Ravens are particularly confident in Reynolds as a returner.

According to PFT we placed Tavon Young on the PUP-list - any reason why we didn't just put him on IR? Is it possible that he could return midseason?

I read it has to do with that fact that if were placed on IR now, he would have to clear waivers, and someone could pick him up. I guess he will be placed on IR when season starts

Yeah, right now all teams can do is the waived/injured process. It basically works like the player is cut and put on waivers. If he clears them the team can then put him on IR.

There is no direct path to the IR list until/after the cutdown day. Not sure why that is exactly since players are always getting hurt and are out for the year in training camp, but it is what it is. And so you have the PUP list.

I guess it's so that teams don't IR prospects they like with questionably season ending injuries just to keep their rights. Teams (including us) do that anyway, just later in the season. But it makes sense that at the starting point, you are only allowed to pick and have rights to 53 guys.

I wonder if Austin Howard could make sense for OL reinforcement.

Considering he's vastly better than James Hurst, I'd say yes Laughing

Austin Howard and Colin Kaepernick >>>>>> James Hurst and Ryan Mallet

"Make sense" considers financial component as well.
