There's no free agency. You can't trade draft picks, only players. The draft in the offseason includes both the incoming rookies and all free agents.

Try doing an expansion team.

Expansion teams are too easy.
How?

It's not that hard to build a good team quickly.
Not when you don't use free agency.

Even if you don't use free agency, it's not that hard.
Ok. It's harder than building up any of the other teams in the game.

Nah. It's hardest building up a bad team with no picks (ex. Nets). Doing well with the Expansion Team is very doable if you make a couple trades early on. Your pick is worth a ton. You can swap it for a really good player. And then you can usually make one more trade without killing your team chemistry for a quality player using a guy like Emmanuel Mudiay.

However, I'm also good with the players I select in the Expansion Draft.(Shaun Livingston, Mike Muscala, Festus Ezeli, etc.)

The most exploitable thing on the game is trading for a future draft pick during the draft. If you trade for the next year's first round pick of the team that finished with the worst record during the draft, it's not worth a ton. If you trade it immediately after the draft, it's worth a star caliber player (Klay, Beal, etc.).

Basically, if the Nets finish with the worst record in 2016-17 and you trade the Celtics for the Nets' 2018 1st during the draft, it only costs like 2.5 stars. Immediately after the draft, it's worth 4.5 stars until the end of the off-season.

My basic tenets of team-building are:
PG: Fast with shooting and defense
SG: 3-and-D
SF: 3-and-D
PF: Stretch-Four
C: Athletic (Tall with Vertical and Speed)

Bench:
PG: Tall and can finish at the basket
SG/SF: Great shooter or defender
PF: Stretch-Four
C: Athletic (same as above)

Players I often end up with in MyLeague:
PG: Darren Collison, Kemba Walker, or Lonzo Ball
SG: J.R. Smith, Avery Bradley, Austin Rivers, or Patrick Beverley
SF: Khris Middleton, Jae Crowder, or Luc Mbah a Moute
PF: Nikola Mirotic, Mike Muscala, Kelly Olynyk, or Thon Maker
C: Dwight Howard, DeAndre Jordan, Andre Drummond, or Festus Ezeli

Bench:
PG: Shaun Livingston (if I can't get him, I usually go after Trey Burke)
SG/SF: Andre Roberson, Tony Allen, or J.R. Smith
PF: Mike Muscala, Richaun Holmes, or Marreese Speights
C: Willie Cauley-Stein or JaVale McGee

WCS is a low-key beast on that game. He's tall with serious speed and agility for his size. He grabs a ton of rebounds and gets to the line fairly frequently on offense if you use him well (and actually converts there).

The Hawks basically give Dwight Howard away. And DeAndre and Drummond are really easy to get. Drummond is a monster. Last time I used him, he went 8 of 9 from the field and 2 of 4 from the line for 18 points and also grabbed 21 rebounds in a game with only 8 minute quarters.(this was on HOF mode)

Muscala drives me nuts sometimes because he does dumb things, but he kills it from 3 when he heats up on pick-and-pops or drives-and-kicks. Mirotic also has a shot that is fairly easy to get correct for a big man (usually, big men shots suck). Ibaka has a really nice shot too, but he's harder to get.

But yea, those are guys I often find a way to grab. The Bucks tend to undervalue Middleton. Rivers is definitely undervalued because of his contract. Roberson is undervalued. You can get him for basically nothing. Move him to SF and he's a valuable bench guy. J.R. can be had for very little because of his contract. Muscala is almost always cheap to acquire. Mbah a Moute is quite cheap to acquire for a good 3-and-D SF. Beverley is also surprisingly cheap.

I'm familiar with the Nets.

Yea, the Nets are tougher to build up without a lot of trades.

Although, I'm surprised you're only playing on superstar. Come on, MKnight. Challenge yourself. Wink

I usually play when I'm drunk so there's a built in handicap.

My inability to hit open 3s is a built-in handicap. Laughing

But I'm beating the CPU on HOF mode. It just takes a lot more effort than it should.
