60m can't get you an LB anymore... this market is crazy.

It's got to the point of absolute absurdity. It's not sustainable for anyone. Instead of paying such ridiculous amounts for players, the clubs should be giving back to the fans via cheaper tickets etc.

I mean it has to taper off some time right? I can't imagine 40-50M for good starters becomes the norm. Or atleast that's what I'm hoping for.

I don't know. As long as that tv money keeps rolling in it's hard to see it stopping. Clubs know that all the Premier League clubs have tons of money and set their asking price accordingly. As soon as teams started to meet their demands it set it all in motion.

Exactly.

Teams are probably spending the same proportion of their income on transfer fees. It just happens that they all have an even greater pile of money.

I remember about 10 years ago where 20m seemed to be the threshold for a top player, then it became the norm.

It's obscene though, but it's quite funny that the EPL teams can't do anything in Europe.

Pretty much. And clubs outside of England have no reason whatsoever to care about ensuring there is monies left over for the English clubs to kick back to their fans as subsidies.

What we've yet to see in this new model - and it will be interesting to watch how it pans out when it eventually does - is how well the clubs a tier or two below the mega-rich triumvirate manage to hold onto their own stars if/when those big three come with an open checkbook. We're kind of seeing it now - though I really don't think there's a ton to this particular rumor - with the overtures towards Eric Dier. Because ultimately, there's no guarantee that you're going to be able to get much more than a comparable player (as in , you won't be able to get a comp replacement AND another starter) for the price of sale of a current one.

Meh, I'd say he's probably the best left wing back in the world right now but 70m is still an absolutely absurd fee for a wing back. 70m should be getting you a world class attacking player.

You could argue Sandro is as good as either, and 3 years Marcelo's junior. He's 26 with 6 League Titles - that's great Experience.

But really it's because he is the only one of the 3 really available for transfer. The other two aren't for sale.

Who would you consider to be a better LB than Sandro?

It's close between all 3 of them honestly. I think Alaba is the best of them all but not decisively better at all.
