Pretty good assessment...but, I think the Broncos will work themselves out of mediocrity in about two years; they are just too young in some key areas, like at QB.

Yeah, him calling Elway signing Manning is laughable and I don't think you can really criticize Elway for the QB situation, but the question marks about the coaching staff is fair.

Michael Lombardi is the biggest hack in NFL media. He is the very definition of a Patriots apologist. Next please.

I think it's been a little bit understated here what an incredible athlete Bolles is, even relative to another very good athlete in Sambrailo. Linemen who hit his marks in agility and speed drills tend to have a pretty low bust rate. For him to hold his own against Von in space (yes, it's only drills) shows Bolles is a different kind of athlete. Not a lot of tackles can redirect Von when he has a clean get off.

I think it's part of the "Lawrence Taylor" effect.

Not only do LT's have to deal with 300+lb linemen, they've also got to be athletic and quick enough to handle the Von Miller's of the world.

That takes rare talent and athleticism. I'm glad we've got a guy with both.

97th percentile broad jump, 96th percentile three-cone, 95th percentile 40-yard dash, 85th percentile 20-yard shuttle. Shocked

Yup, pretty shocking for a guy his size. He's also pretty under developed when you look at him. Adding 10-15 pounds of muscle won't be any problem. he can add 5 just in his arms.

It's his attitude BB that IMO will make him. Legwold had an article the other day talking about his "want to" and work ethic. As in want to be the best LT in the business and willing and eager to do what it takes. It's based on wanting to provide for his wife, kids and their grandchildren. Has nothing to do with bling, fast cars or .............

Toss in his "like to fight" personality and the future looks bright.

IDK if that's a fair way to categorize a players motivations. There are plenty of elite NFL talents who don't cause legitimate off field distractions but also love bling and fast cars. Wanting to provide for your family really doesn't indicate that he has extra motivation. Tons of NFL wash outs are giving 110%, hoping to help their family, and simply fail.

I think people remember the prominent cases of the guys who have NFL-elite level physical talent, but not the desire. The reality is that these cases are few and far between, but often the price paid and the lost potential makes them notorious (see: Josh Gordon), so we remember them more and forget the rest who aren't notorious, have the desire, but still fail (they're just guys who don't make headlines for their failures). But for every failed Josh Gordon type (or maybe as a better example, Dion Jordan), there are probably 20-40 guys who fail who have that same level desire, but not the talent (or get hurt and lose the talent).

Right now, with nothing happening until TC in late July, this is the one time where we hope very little news comes out from our guys the next 4 weeks other than injury recovery.... the only other news that comes out now is news you don't want (legal troubles, DUI's, etc.). Hopefully no one shoots themselves this year. Laughing

The team released the schedule for training camp today.

7/27 Thursday 9:30am - 12:00pm
7/28 Friday 9:30am - 12:00pm
7/29 Saturday 9:30am - 12:00pm
7/30 Sunday 9:30am - 12:00pm
7/31 Monday 9:30am - 12:00pm
8/2 Wednesday 9:30am - 12:00pm
8/3 Thursday 9:30am - 12:00pm
8/4 Friday 9:30am - 12:00pm
8/5 Saturday 9:30am - 12:00pm
8/7 Monday 9:30am - 12:00pm
8/8 Tuesday 9:30am - 12:00pm
8/12 Saturday 9:30am - 12:00pm

Only 12 practices seems a little thin to me. I could be mis-remembering but in the past I always thought they would have 15 or 16 practices open to the public.

I see they only list one practice after the 1st pre season game. There's still a month before the season opener on Sept 11th. Wouldn't some of those practices be open?

According to BSN, the 12 training camp practices open to the public are down from 15 last year and 14 the year before.

The increasingly secretive nature of this franchise is troubling. First the media was barred from all but two OTA practices and now they are reducing the number of open training camp practices. It reminds me of the 2009-10 period when our current OC's mentor was serving as head coach.

Given we have a new OC, scheme, and unlike last year, a true QB competition this year between Lynch and Siemian (last year, once Sanchez got cut, it was basically going to be Siemian's job, given where Lynch was starting from), it's not surprising the staff isn't going to want to tip their hand yet. The fact there are no public practices after Aug. 12 announced, the public practices being all early - well before the position battles likely declare themselves.

Now, the pessimistic view is that Elway already is locked into giving it to Lynch even if he's not ready, and this way, they don't have to be under public scrutiny and can spin their decision even if it's not what is actually there, and no one will see the difference in practice - in reality, though, I don't know that 2-3 more practices will make a stronger case for/against, the preseason games will still be there for all to see (although, again, who they play against can be misleading - 1st Q vs. starting D really different than when the 2nd string/scrub D guys come out). But, if Lynch gets the gig even though he's not at (or close to) Siemian's level of D-read/pocket awareness/anticipation and placement, well, no doubt the secrecy here will get more heat.

The more benign view to front-loading the public practices is that the coaching staff want to have no distractions whatsoever and give the QB (and other) competition full attention without public fanfare and overblowing 1-2 plays that likely get tweeted over & over again. The recent issue with Parks Instagram's for 2 plays highlights why an open-to-public practice can be problematic - like Parks, other people are going to post the splashiest plays, not necessarily reflective of the entire performance (and I say that giving Siemian the clear edge on performance at this stage, Lynch has to show me he's progressed - I don't really think it's 50-50 at this stage if we go off pure performance, OTA's is basically flag football, I want to see real action and progress there with Lynch before I think he's close to, or at Siemian's level of play).

Besides, it's not like DEN is at NE's level of secrecy - the Pats have 6 public practices announced so far (contrast that to PIT, who have 15, and KC who have 16, IIRC).

I'd think it has quite a bit more to do with opening on a Thursday on the road instead of Saturday like most other teams.

That removes Wednesday thru Friday practice sessions, automatically eliminating three "open" practices.

Just simple math. We have three less opportunities than most teams. Looks to me like every practice from opening of camp until their travel day is open to the public. Can't ask for more than that.

Who is it troubling to? You as a journalist, or the general fanbase? Because I read all kinds of Broncos content and very few, if any, people have complained about the level of access they are getting from the new team. I know you want to paint this as NE-West, and therefore bad, but I'm just not seeing that.

It's the trend that's troubling, ever more secretive. What's next, a player has an "lower-extremity injury?"

Isn't it possible that the combination of:

New coach
Young QBs in competition
Non-conducive schedule
Poor record last year (read:greater focus)

Are the main drivers behind the access level? Until they start lying to us outright or something, I wouldn't say this qualifies as any more than a minor annoyance on a personal level.
