“It’s been consistent and it’s been remarkably good,” Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said via David Moore of the Dallas Morning News. “That started all the way back when we first met him, back at the combine and through the draft process. That’s one of the reasons you take a chance on someone like this, with the injury he had.

“We all knew the severity of it. We do think we had good information coming from Dr. [Dan] Cooper. But I think the bet was made because of the kind of guy that he is. Not only has he not disappointed, I think he’s exceeded all expectations in terms of the kind of person he is. He hasn’t had a bad minute, let alone a bad day.”

"There have been some great transitions with the nerve regenerating," Smith said. "I'm out there being explosive, moving fast. It's a great feeling to be a part of the Dallas Cowboys. America's Team."

"He's the total package," said All-Pro linebacker Sean Lee at the end of Cowboys' OTAs. "Physically, mentally, I mean it's a matter of time before he's a dominant player. He's put the work in, so it's fun for me to be able to work with him."

And franchise quarterback Dak Prescott couldn't be more proud to have Smith as a teammate.

"He's a wonderful person, he's been a great friend," said Prescott. "...Fellow rookie coming in and everything he's been through, and more importantly his attitude that he's kept through all of that -- of being positive and knowing his abilities and not listening to people saying he can or can't do anything.

"I know once he gets going, he's going to be the real deal."

He's a terrific young man with high character. I'm glad that all the work has paid off. Now just go out and live up to that number in the manner of Chuck Howley and Randy White. You can forget about Bobby Carpenter.

They have Rod and Keith Smith, so likely J. Smith.

Well, not being one for such early predictions, but what the hell.

If our defense can find contributors like our offense did last year in Prescott and Elliott, then we will be VERY difficult to beat.

I am looking at:

1. Charlton DE 6-8 sacks
2. J. Smith LB Leading in tackles with a handful of sacks and turnovers
3. CB- not sure who its going to be but we NEED a solid threat back there that shrinks the field.

If we can find that in our defense this year, AND our offense does not suffer a sophomore slump or, dare I say, injuries, I believe we will contend for the title.
