Browns sign LB Christian Kirksey to a 4yr 38 million deal with $20mill guaranteed.

Thats the 5th largest contract for his position.

Led all LBs with 63 defensive stops last season and teams leading tackler. Good move.

Good idea to get him signed, he has progressed nicely. The weakest spot in the front 7 appears to be Demario Davis and he is okay. He also won't be on the field all of the time, Kirksey and Collins will stay in when they go nickel to go along with Garrett, Ogbah, Shelton and Bryant/Ogunjobi/Brantley. The front seven has the potential to be legitimate. The secondary has more question marks but their job may be easier this year.

Never heard of him before but looking at those stats he looks like a solid player, good move by the Browns to get him signed.

What's the difference between a tackle and a defensive stop?

Dunno. Maybe he means on 3rd/4th down? That number seems very high though in that case.

I'm pretty sure that it has to do with the proximity to the line of scrimmage or other situational tackles short of the line to gain, etc.

We had LOTS of opportunities to make tackles last year. We didn't make too many defensive stops.

He's just as good if not better than Collins, TBH. Collins hasn't reached his ceiling yet and is oozing all pro potential but they make a great pair of Lb in the nickel.

I wouldnt go that far lol

Career:

Kirksey- 0 INT, 2 FF, 8 SCK
Collins- 5 INT, 11 FF, 13 SCK

Kirksey excels at covering ground with speed sideline to sideline and being a great tackler between the tackles. Hes simply a tackling machine that is great in racking up TFLs by shooting gaps.

Anyways a DEFENSIVE STOP is this: Stops are what we judge to be tackles that prevent an offensive success (defined as gaining 40% of required yardage on first down, 60% on second down, and the entire required yardage on third or fourth)

I would.

Go off of their play together last year. Kirksey was outstanding.
