I was excited for him when we signed him, but after our draft I really felt like he had no role here if we wanted the 2 rookies to see the field.
Orlando Scandrick
Anthony Brown
Chidobe Awuzie
Jourdan Lewis
There's your top 4 CB's. Carroll is/was likely gonna get cut anyways. _________________

Seems like they had plans for him at starting CB this season...

Cowboys had Anthony Brown and Nolan Carroll at 1st-team outside CB in practice with Orlando Scandrick at nickel CB. _________________

Yeah usually when you draft 3 rookie CBs your prob not comfortable with your CB position...i wouldn't put to much stock in the first practice of the year considering the rookies they have on the roster |

Hardly. Nobody has been excited about Nolan Carroll.
"Carroll has been somewhat of an afterthought when it comes to how a lot of fans see the cornerback depth shaping up. With three draft picks invested in that position, a lot of people are anxious to see the new guys in action. That time will come, but the rookies won't just be thrown into action. Last week in OTA's, Carroll was part of the starting cornerback group alongside Orlando Scandrick and Anthony Brown. The Cowboys coaches still see Carroll as a part of this group despite the young talent they have brought on board."
Having him at 1st-team at this point does not mean much. _________________

You mean the very first practice we put Carrol on the outside instead of a rookie? Ya dont say!?!?!
SHOCKED!
Carrol was signed pre-draft as depth for depth money. _________________

I'm sure OC's mouths are watering at the thought of all that inexperience at DB this season for the Cowboys. Especially since offenses will probably be forced to pass a lot against that team. _________________

Added Nolan Carroll:
NFCE rival fans were all "He's burnt toast....a JAG at best!"
Nolan Carroll arrested for DUI:
NFCE rival fans-- "They lost a valuable piece to their defensive backfield!"
Revisionist history, indeed! |

He's burnt toast.
But that burnt toast was slated to be a major contributor.
So if burnt toast was potentially a starter, imagine how much of a question the other corners are... _________________

Was never going to be one of the top 2 CBs, if thats what you mean by starter. He was getting first team reps at the #3 spot because the guys behind him are rookies and weve only had one open practice so far. There is literally 0 indication that he would have been a "major contributor". If he is as bad as everyone says, he would have lost his job to one of the rookies. _________________

TC hasn't even started, man. We're talking OTAs right meow. "Slated"?
I get it. You believe (or want to believe) that losing Carroll for a few games next year will be a huge blow to the defense. Your argument depends on pumping-up Carroll.
Outside of Sean Lee and maybe Byron Jones, there aren't any players on D that are irreplaceable. That's one of the rare benefits of having a "middle of the road" defense. |

Oh yeah I guess that totally is in sync with Carroll's contract details...
3 year 10 million dollar contract.
If he's cut this offseason, that's 3 million in dead money in 2017 (1 million if after June 1st), 2 million in dead money in 2018, and 1 million in dead money in 2019.
EDIT: Just saw that there's a one year out for Dallas. That makes the pinch from moving on from him a lot less painful. 1M in dead money for a post June 1 cut isn't all that bad. _________________
