The Vikings apparently aren’t bringing former Nebraska quarterback Tommy Armstrong in for organized team activities. Armstrong attended last weekend’s rookie minicamp and said the Vikings planned on signing him as a safety prospect. However, Thursday night Armstrong tweeted he won’t be coming, saying, “Unfortunately, I got the call that they couldn’t make a second cut for me!!! Just want to say thank you to the @Vikings for the chance!!”

The Vikings have not signed any players who tried out. On Wednesday, they waived tackle Nick Fett, who had signed last week as an undrafted free agent, but it was to clear a roster spot to sign free-agent wide receiver Michael Floyd.

So essentially Floyd took Armstrong's roster spot, if I'm reading that right.

In a roundabout way, sort of.

Vikings wide receiver Stefon Diggs made one of the most impressive catches of the spring Tuesday when he made a tumbling catch on a deep pass from quarterback Sam Bradford.

Diggs adjusted his body position on cornerback Xavier Rhodes before twisting back to secure the catch despite sprawling to the ground. An incredulous Rhodes playfully tried to slap the ball away from Diggs after the play, but the wide receiver was able to celebrate his impressive snag.

The Vikings spent one of the final parts of Wednesday’s practice in the red zone, as they look for success inside the 15-yard line. But with every play being third down, the offense was trying to pick up first downs in addition to scoring. Both sides of the ball had notable plays.

Wide receiver Jarius Wright and tight end Kyle Carter had touchdown catches. Cornerback Trae Waynes and linebacker Edmond Robinson provided solid coverage to prevent completions. Safety Tommy Armstrong ended the session by preventing a possible touchdown catch at the goal line.
