Quote:
The Chicago Bears signed linebacker Dan Skuta to a one-year contract Monday.

Skuta's signing is another indication that starting inside linebacker Danny Trevathan might not be ready by the start of the season. Trevathan is recovering from a torn patellar tendon in his right knee and the Bears have not given a timetable for his return.

Probably the goodbye Lamaar Houston move.

It would be tough to keep 4 OLBs that do not play special teams.

Don't know much about Skuta, but isn't he a 3-4 ILB? I did not think Jacksonville or SF utilized him as an edge rusher.

He plays OLB and he did in SF as well.

He is a hard working lunch pale type who plays the run well. My guess is he is here to take Houston's role and work with Acho is captains of the special teams and part time run defenders.

Floyd, Young, Mcphee doesn't leave much pass rush reps for Houston.

Bank the 7 million and roll it into next year.

Fox me he still comes here as an ILB rather than an OLB...Houston will still be cut tho.

Seems like he can play ILB or OLB as a run first player. Almost an Upshaw-like role. Not opposed to the move at all.

He got a big deal from JAC and got cut after just one year, likely getting satisfied with a big contract. Maybe him getting cut has made him hungry again and him being with Fangio again can't hurt; at the very worst, he gets cut for nothing. Decent move

Yeah...but if McPhee stays healthy, it'll be a miracle. I'd be far less surprised if Kevin White stayed healthy next year, and contributed, to be honest.

We'll see how they go about it. It'll be interesting, for sure...

Hard to justify a 7 million dollar, constantly injured backup OLB that doesn't play any special teams.

Even if McPhee gets hurt, Houston wouldn't start.

Yep Young would start and Acho offers far more versatility...the only surprise for me is he is still on the roster...if I'm his agent am asking for him to be released just now to give me a better chance of finding a new team for him...same goes for Eddie Royal.

Both Houston and Royal have to be able to pass a physical to not be cut with an injury settlement. I'm still not convinced Houston is on his way out of town. We had 4 OLB who didn't play ST last year too and it wasn't a big deal. Houston isn't preventing us from doing anything cap-wise and is a better rotational player or injury fill in than Skuta, Acho or Jones. He can actually play when healthy. He's not great, but he's serviceable and for a team with experienced depth issues he presents something we don't have at most positions.
