Martavis can't stay on the field due to drugs and Sammy can't stay on the field due to a nagging foot injury that he got surgery on this January.

I expect both of them to have their issues behind them but Bryant appears to be the greater risk going forward because one more strike and you're out. I'm not fully confident Bryant strikes out. He's put 10 pound of muscle on so it appears he has found a new hobby and might be addicted to exercise and a healthy lifestyle. I'm still a skeptic. 4th round pick. He's always been an underachiever. He's as physically gifted as Randy Moss. I would say better but probably the same.

Sammy Watkins had the fifth year option declined by the Bills, so if he was a slam dunk in their eyes they would have picked up his option. It appears they are going to make him work for it, which is a dumb idea, because the franchise tag number of $16 million will be higher than his 5th year option salary of $13,200,000 next year. The franchise tag is a mere formality for a player of his caliber. So this is typical Bills, they just fired their GM the day after the draft as well. The same GM that gave up two 1st rd picks for Watkins. The cap number wouldn't be a problem for the Steelers going forward and they could work out a long-term deal to lower the franchise tag number in 2018. Don't worry about Bell because he will only create more cap room for this year.

Sammy Watkins would be $3,100,000 for this year. Fully guaranteed. I'd let him play out this deal. Franchise tag him. Look at the trade market. If I get 2018 1st plus another pick, hopefully, 2nd rd pick, maybe trade him, because, I like JuJu. If not, I work out a long-term deal. This is just a way to remove some risk from the equation. Well, less risk and I'm giving up a little potential.

When I see a team decline a 5th year option it tells me he's on the table if the deal is right. I think Bryant makes the deal right. They both are risks and physically gifted dynamic WRs.

If you think the deal is stupid, give me a lucid argument as to why it is stupid

No. The best ability is availability. I'm not a Watkins fan.

Yup. Plus Sammie Watkins issues has been repeated foot issues.

And his average year:
2 healthy games
4 OK playing through injury
4 he shouldn't be out there playing through injury
6 doesn't play at all.

Jones' only chance is to go to Tenn. Otherwise he is flipping burgers this fall.

No, since Watkins is going to get traded to NE for a 2019 7th rounder, and he becomes Moss V.2 and plays the next 6 seasons without missing a single snap.

If they'd give us....Watkins and a second or third rounder for Bryant, I'd do it in a heartbeat. Because I don't believe for a second that Bryant will be playing in the NFL two-three years from now.

No...and I think Watkins is a damn good#1 WR when healthy.

It comes down to years of control...Bryant has 2 before FA and Watkins only 1.

I love Watkins coming out but he can't stay on the field. Yeah, Bryant has his issues but I would not do it.

Good post to pose to the group ironcitykid.

I would say no because we would be gambling one type of issue for another. When you draft a player, you are investing in him. Despite some of Bryant's issues, I think you send the wrong message shipping him out or trading him before you give him a chance to get back on the field.

If Bryant can stay clean and continue to mature, the sky is the limit for him. Again, they have an insurance policy in rookie Smith. I am a Bryant fan and I would give the kid every opportunity to succeed before moving on from him. I would support him until his third strike.

As stated earlier he has two year left to prove himself. He has #1 abilities.

if both are on the field all 16 games. I think Bryant out produces him as a number 2 as well

I'd say Bryant. Doing drugs is a choice. Getting injured isn't. Watkins can't stay healthy. Bryant CAN stay clean.

I'll take the questionable suspensions from Bryant over the often injured Watkins.

Watkins has tons of potential, but it remained untapped.
Bryant has show that potential, but often can't stay out of trouble.

Bryant is worth the gamble, to me at least.

Yes. Watkins is the superior talent. He's a good guy and his injury is not serious. Bryant is a headcase. Potheads like Bryant don't give up getting high, they just try not getting caught. Next time he will get a full year suspension. Steelers need to start getting rid of all these bad character guys.
