Was it a good idea for the NFL to put Giants / Cowboys as the Week 1 featured matchup again?

I'm tired of the Giants in prime time in general. Feels like they're always on prime time.

Yes I am. At least have the game in NY for once.

Seriously. So sick and tired of it always being in DAL in week 1, and then waiting like 13 weeks for them to play again in NY. As a Cowboys fan living in NY, it's so annoying if I want to go to the game and have to freeze my pants off because for some reason the NFL insists on the week 1 game being in Dallas, and then having the Cowboys go to NY in December and have everyone standing in a natural freezer.

I would rather have seen Seahawks vs Cowboys or Packers vs Cowboys.

You'll get to see those matchups too in Week 16 and Week 5, Patience! Laughing

It's a bit over done, but let's be honest, there's only 32 teams. Only so many combinations of those 32 teams play each year, and substantially fewer of those combinations are actually interesting on paper. So the pool they have to pull from is actually quite limited. So the repetition is understandable.

And sidenote, to OP, I see this happen all the time, but try to avoid making the thread title a question, then putting a poll question that would have the opposite answer. The title asks if we're sick of that matchup. So if someone was coming into the thread thinking yes, I am, and didn't pay attention, then they would be answering yes to the poll question of if the matchup is a good idea. I guarantee it has happened with this poll.

The only team in the NFC East that isn't overexposed is the Redskins. For that matter, Washington DC is the smallest TV market in the division, which is probably why the division as a whole gets overexposed.

As shown by another thread on this forum the NFCE is the best division this year. So I'd agree that the prime matchup of this division deserves to be in the opening week. TBH I'm suprised and shocked that it isn't getting its due as being the opener.

The opener is going to get ratings no matter what. The NFL's strategy here is to get opening game ratings twice.

This is a matchup with two of the biggest markets, and with some of the brightest young offensive weapons in the NFL. It's going to draw viewers.

Washington somehow actually got more primetime games this year (5) than the Giants did (4).

No, be nice to see them freshen things up a bit in Week 1. It's a tremendous rivalry but give the teams a different Week 1 match.

The ratings show when they put on teams "no one ever gets a chance to see" no one watches. The idea that the NFL should be more "fair" with he gets shown is absurd. Even hardcore football fans here aren't interested in seeing Jaguars v Houston, Jets v Bills, Steelers v Browns, Chargers vs Broncos, etc. There are plenty of Thursday night games that feature teams who never get primetime games that people regularly skip early in the season when everyone is still in it

Thursday games I understand.. but Monday games??

I don't mind it, although it does seem a little unfair the the Cowboys to have hosted the matchup 4 consecutive times..

That's fair, but plenty of "hardcore" fans skip watching the NFC East.

I get it. The Monday night games suck. The NFL has decided the Sunday night games are the primetime GOTW.

Yes very sick of this matchup.

Has any other pair squared off in week 1 more?

I would also like to see a year in which these teams don't play each other on SNF at all.

Just feels like they're running this rivalry into the ground.
