I've not got into the draft much yet but would people be upset by OJ Howard? There's previous of the Bengals drafting first round tight ends, Eifert's in a contract year and his health is a always a concern and if we do give Eifert a contract we have 2 Tight Ends locked down who could be destructive weapons still not on absurd money with one on a rookie contract. I'm not sure it happens but I like the logic and he looks like a good player who can block as well as catch.

I wouldn't be upset

I would. I dont think we would utilize a guy like Howard enough to warrant a top 10 pick.

If they pick him at 9, he better get way more targets between the 20's than Eifert does. For as good as Eifert is in the redzone, they barely use him as a receiver in the middle of the field.

They would likely use him to chip and help the bad OT's we will have and barely run routes. No thanks on that one.

No. I don't see the Bengals taking a WR other than a 3-5 round speed guy.

Honestly, Allen and Thomas don't fit our need as well as Barnett. And I'm not a fan of Barnett.

Funny isn't it? Taco & Barnett fit our scheme better, but the other are widely regarded as better prospects. Will be interesting if Thomas or Allen slip what the team decides to do.

Hard to say. I'm on Barnett for awhile now, but not sure the team will see him as a true DE in our defense.

I think all the news surrounding Paul Guenther and his sentiment about abandoning the front offices ideal of a 6'5'+ defensive end is real. The fact of the matter is we need to get to the quarterback. We don't have the luxury of waiting for the prototype anymore. I think the talent window here is somewhat closing; and especially Marvin Lewis' window. We cannot go another season with just Dunlap and Atkins facing double teams.

As for Barnett, I hate his athletic testing. His college resume and lack of athleticism reminds me of Jarvis Jones. I think he's the pick at 9, but an underwhelming one. I'm hoping we double down at end pretty early, and take either Derrick Rivers or Darell Basham in the 2nd.

That's true insomuch as they've missed on (or just haven't bothered to play) the players from the last few draft classes. If those guys start producing, or they hit on the next few draft classes, suddenly that's not the case.

Really the only window any particular team has is the lifespan of their QB.
Dalton probably has 5-8 more years of productive service. Which means they probably have a 5-8 year window. After that, the search for a QB begins again.

The more I think about Howard at 1, Mixon at 2, Elflein at 3, and best WR available at 4a is growing on me. Sure our d might belong in the big 12 if we get no impact guys on defense at the beginning of the draft but Dalton might not mind.

Quote:
Draft Analyst's Tony Pauline reports that Washington WR John Ross is "in the conversation" for the Bengals at No. 9.
Pauline additionally reports that the Bengals do not have qualms about Ross' rather extensive injury history. No. 9 is about as high as we have heard for the Washington speedster. Pauline, himself, does not see Ross off the board until No. 21 (to the Lions) in a four-round mock draft released last week.

I'm fine with this. Ross is one of those rare next level speed guys. I think if the top couple of guys on our board are gone (Barnett and Thomas), I could see us taking Ross...

I love Ross as a player. Just scared of all his injuries to take him at 9 honestly.
