OK, not sure how I feel about this. I get the concerns, but tradition is a big part of what keeps this Packer Nation together:

Packers trade bikes for trucks to boost efficiency, safety at training camp

GREEN BAY – A long-standing tradition started under the legendary coach Vince Lombardi takes a modern turn as the Packers enter training camp of 2017. The players will still take the iconic DreamDrive on their way to the Ray Nitschke Field, but it will be on fans' trucks, not on kids' bicycles.

Team president and CEO Mark Murphy said the aim is to boost efficiency of practice time that has become scarce under the new CBA, and to offer greater protection for the players.

”We are not giving up on tradition, we're modernizing and motorizing it. Players loved riding the bicycles, but it took a long time to get organized for practice. We have been so close to making it to the big game, we want to utilize every minute we can find to get better as a team.”

Fans wishing to have a Packer ride in their vehicle or to drive their truck can submit a photo and description of their vehicle by email to team general counselor Ed Policy before the end of June. Policy states that the policy is to reward fans willing to paint or decorate their vehicles in the Packers colors and gear. Trucks and other large vehicles will be prioritized before smaller cars.

Murphy wants to assure the fans that this not about the team distancing itself from the crowds of fans flocking to every training camp practice.

”We want our great fans to stay involved, so moving from small bikes to spectacular trucks is a logical step. Our younger fans will still get to ride along, right next to their favorite players.”

Mark Murphy mentioned player safety as another factor going into the decision. According to the CDC, in 2013 alone, over 900 bicyclists were killed and there were an estimated 494,000 emergency department visits due to bicycle-related injuries in the US.

Players have been aloof with helmet usage on the bike rides, many opting not to wear one at all. According to Milwookie Journal Sentinel records, no Packer has ever been reported injured during the DreamDrive ride, but Murphy said a small and unnecessary risk still exists.

”These are big men and big assets to the team we are talking about. When they fall on hard concrete, the results can be surprisingly severe. With the league ever more cautious about concussions, we feel we have to do our part.”

Environmental groups have been taken aback with the move. Ryana Leaf, the chairman of the Wisconsin Enthusiasts for Environmental Protection (WEEP), said this sends a strong and harmful message to fans everywhere:

”This is madness. Trump is building oil pipelines and firing up coal plants, but why do our Packers need to get in on the polluting? Poor little children will have a terrible example, become too scared to ride bikes, and have all joy taken out of their lives. What is this, a poor April Fools joke!?”

Packers general manager Ted Thompson was out scouting for potential UDFA camp cuts, and was not available for comment.

Yeah, not my best idea. Sorry. I found out about the date a bit late, had to put the first idea out before people started waking up. Takes time to mimic Journal Sentinel style.

Woulda done "Trump tweets Packers model socialist, talks forcing sale to private owner" but ran outta time.

Should have just bumped the Bennett signing thread tbh

Posted it was voided after we signed a guy from the Australian rugby league instead.
