We drop 17 places - from 206 to 223 - in the draft in order to do the deal.

Hayes was rated as the 11th best edge setting DE (against the run) last year by PFF which is exactly what we need. Great trade!

Solid run defender, that gets around 5 sacks a year on the cheap. Good move by our FO.

Maybe now we can ditch Dion Jordan??

Yes.

Moving down 17 spots in the late rounds, added competition to a position of need, graded well. Good move.

Due $5.5 million in 2017, no guaranteed money after that. 2018 salary is $5 million.

Good trade for you guys. Even if he doesn't have much of an impact you got him for basically nothing.

Really nice pickup. Hayes is a beast against the run, which we all know is exactly what the team needs.

You guys think he will start for the Dolphins? Do you think he will get 60+% of the snaps?

We'll probably use a DE rotation.. I'm not sure he'll be marked off as the starter or not but he will probably see 40-60% of the snaps depending on how everything falls. We currently have a lot of DEs on the roster who will cut into Hayes' playing time, including Wake, Branch, and ofc the rookie Harris.

Like Nacho said, lot of DEs vying for playing time. Reporters haven't been able to report who starters at each spot have been at OTAs.

The only thing that can be said for sure is Harris likely won't play early downs very often early in the season, probably not much this year at all.

Hayes graded out as a better run-stopper than Wake and Branch both. I imagine he will be playing early downs most of the time, and probably cedes a good chunk of pass-rushing snaps to Harris and/or Wake. To answer your question directly, I think 55-60% of snaps is a decent estimate.

Important to note that at some point after signing the contract Hayes and his agent voided the final year of the deal, so he is now under a one-year contract. He said during an OTA interview that after arriving at Dolphins OTAs and getting to know the culture and Gase he "regretted" voiding that deal. Didn't see it mentioned in the thread.

He probably really likes Miami because of the mermaids.

Yeah, I think you're right about all of that.
