Seems like I'm the lone wolf on this but, I'm glad that Zach Brown has left Oakland and no deal is currently in sight between them.
No details released on what he wants, or what Oakland offered.
Brown had the 2nd most tackles in NFL (149), 4 sacks, 2 FFs & INT.
He would be an absolute coup here. _________________

If he hasn't been scheduled for a visit in Winter Park (is that still the name?), it's not likely there is enough cap room allocated for another such FA signing. I'm giving consideration in determining residual cap space to possible contract extensions for some guys now on the back end of their rookie contracts.
Also, Spielman and Zimmer may know more about the depth on D, and the possibility someone emerges in pre-season as a quality, cap-friendly, starter. |

If the determining reason for not brining in Z Brown is that they deem not enough cap room now [not necessarily saying it is], then its a mistake on the FO (for ex Jones would provide farr less). Brown would come in and likely be our best LB, and give us flexibility to either run 3 LBs, or trade Kendricks or Barr.
I would give him a multi-year deal without question. _________________

Spielman: “We’ve been active. I know some of the reporters out there wish it was a little faster at times, but I think you do your due diligence. You do it the right way to get an idea of where the markets are going, when it’s time to pull the trigger on some deals, and we felt like we’ve added some very good football players to our roster. The money does get crazy out there, but it’s all supply and demand. We know specifically some of the areas that we had to target starting in the free agency. We knew that some of the players that did go elsewhere we were not going to be able to keep. You can’t keep everybody.”
Spielman said financial reasons played a role in some of the departures. And some of the players who left, such as tackle Andre Smith, the Vikings weren’t interested in bringing back.

That's a big stretch. Why are you so adamant on signing outside guys and trading away current players? Didn't you want to do the same thing with Jeffery and Diggs? I don't get it. At all. _________________

To me the FO not bringing in a LB from FA means that they have confidence in the Lamur signing from last year and Robinson from the draft 2 years ago. I would expect that we draft a later round LBer. _________________

That's not just a stretch, that's delusional, considering Brown's only had 1 real good year. He was largely either unhealthy or ineffective for the Titans in his last 2 years there and just happened to breakout in Buffalo last year (He was killer for my fantasy team here), but I'm not sure I'd count on him. He has no track record of consistency. _________________

I think Brown would be a great fit at WLB, wouldn't mind bringing him if he doesn't cost much. He's not replacing Kendricks or Barr though. I trust Kendricks more at MLB going forward than Brown.
But I'm fine going with Lamur, Robinson and a rookie too. _________________

I agree Brown would be a great addition to Kendricks and Barr.
Lamur is below-average which is why he doesn't see the field much. _________________

I guess that's the difference between top dog and second fiddle. _________________

We dodged a bullet ... paying "significantly more" for Jared Cook would have been a mistake, for his role here. I don't even like the salary he got from Oakland based on him being a #2 TE here, and us wanting targets for Morgan.
To me that's likely a questionable offer we made. _________________

I'm guessing that may have a lot to do with playing time. Cook is the #1 TE in Oakland. He isn't in MN.
But the fact that MN wanted to spend decent money on a receiving TE could suggest that they may prioritize the need in the draft and move towards more of a two TE offense with Morgan potentially playing more of a blocking role. _________________

They may be looking to the future to, can they move on from Rudolph with a minimal cap hit next year? _________________
