I saw somewhere that if they designate this as a June 1st release, the teams saves between $5M and $6M.

It has to be due to his health. I'm not convinced that he even plays half of a season again, let alone a full season at anywhere near his old ability.

He'll retire. Even if he doesn't, I respect the Lions for letting go of a guy whose heart wasn't in it this last year instead of hanging on to desperate hope like previous Lions teams would have

Watch him go somewhere else and ball out and we look like chumps for refusing to be patient with his injuries. Evil or Very Mad

Think it's fair to say the Lions were as patient as could be when it came to him.

Based on the statement the Lions gave, I think he retires.

This makes me sad. Suh and Levy were a ton of fun to watch.

That's pretty much how I feel. At this point I would guess that he's going to retire, but he may end up playing elsewhere if the right team came along. It's impossible to say, though. We'll see what happens. I wish him the best. It's unfortunate things didn't go differently.

http://www.espn.com/blog/detroit-lions/post/_/id/28356/deandre-levy-still-trying-to-get-healthy-leaves-detroit-lions-with-no-regrets

Quote:
“Those 26 to 28, 29, those are really the years and I really felt everything was coming together and kind of derailed with the injuries,” Levy said. “I had a lot of miles on my body. I know that I gave everything I had in preparing and taking care of my body and trying to get back healthy.

“Sometimes it’s out of your control. You play football and it’s a violent sport and it’s a taxing sport. Sometimes you can do everything in your will to be prepared, to be ready, to be available, and at the end of the day, you’re still playing a very physical, a very violent game and sometimes those things catch you. But I know that I don’t have any regrets because I know I didn’t sell myself short any day that I was a part of the Detroit Lions.”

Played 5 games in the last two years and turning 30. Great guy on and off the field and was really a leader of our defense but those injuries are a concern. Disappointing that his Lions career ended this way.

Yep. Injuries derailed a promising Lions career.

I don't ever see him being productive again and I think he also has ambitions off the field that will outweigh further injury/trauma on the field.

It has been 2 weeks since we cut Levy. And to my knowledge, he has not received so much as a sniff.

I think we might be able to get him back on a 1 year, prove to us that you are healthy and ready to contribute, veteran minimum contract.

I think he's still on our team until June 1.

I'm expecting him to announce retirement after not getting any decent offers, this to me, is more likely than him coming back at the vet minimum. It would be nice if they at least offered him an assistant coaching position like they did with Raiola.
