Lions signed CB D.J. Hayden, formerly of the Raiders, to a one-year contract.

The 12th overall pick of the 2013 draft, Hayden was one of many first-round busts that year. Many experts had Hayden pegged as the best corner in that draft, but he's had a far worse start to his career than the three corners -- Desmond Trufant, Xavier Rhodes, Darius Slay -- drafted directly after him. Hayden couldn't cut it on the outside in Oakland, so the Raiders tried him in the slot. He was somewhat serviceable there, but no better than league average. Maybe DC Teryl Austin can get more out of Hayden. He's still just 27 (in June). It's not a bad flier.

Depending on the contract, not a bad option. Try him out and draft a CB and let hem fight for a spot.

He'll likely be the slot CB with a chance to compete for the #2 spot

I would assume its a cheap deal. Worth a try as long as there isn't much guaranteed. I feel like CB more than any position it really depends on the system and the guys around them so maybe he turns into something. Odds are he is a guy we are all screaming to replace mid year.

The guy is young and talented coming into the NFL, he had a major injury in college that almost killed him in a collision with a tackler on the practice field might of effected him more then anyone thinks.

I have a feeling its a no lose prop for us he is a 1st round talent that perhaps needs a little more time to adjust to the pros I mean come on he is 26 !!

Let him play nickle get his feet wet here and hope he can slide into the number 2 corner position bye his own playing merit ! Wink

I like the move a lot. Hopefully this turns into a Chris Houston situation where Hayden comes into his own in a new system. If he lives up to the hype, then we'll have a great trio of CBs with solid dependable safeties on top.

We need to find players that can pressure the damn quarterback, though. And we got worse by letting go of our best blitzing LB on the roster.

As long as the 5 mil is incentive base heavy, I have no issue with this.

Most contracts given out under Bob Quinn have been heavily incentive based. He will likely have a lot of per-game roster bonuses and playing-time incentives.

I think he's depth. Can't see him starting on the outside. Also still think a CB gets taken in the first 3 rounds.

Depth signing with the chance to work his way up the ladder. Solid move.

Quinn's whole philosophy on depth signings of experienced guys is what I like to see.

Who is left that you think would be worth the money and could we afford them? Should we just target draft guys now?

I'll miss Levy but I don't see him ever playing a full season again or being able to play at his best.
